AB - Background Avena fatua and A. sterilis are challenging to distinguish due to their strong similarities. However,
Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) can effectively extract patterns and identify these species. We measured seed traits
of Avena species from 122 locations across the Balkans and from some populations from southern, western, and
central Europe (total over 22 000 seeds). The inputs for the ANN model included seed mass, size, color, hairiness, and
placement of the awn attachment on the lemma.
Results The ANN model achieved high classification accuracy for A. fatua and A. sterilis (R2>0.99, RASE<0.0003) with
no misclassification. Incorporating geographic coordinates as inputs also resulted in successful classification (R2>0.99,
RASE<0.000001) with no misclassification. This highlights the significant influence of geographic coordinates on
the occurrence of Avena species. The models revealed hidden relationships between morphological traits that are
not easily detectable through traditional statistical methods. For example, seed color can be partially predicted by
other seed traits combined with geographic coordinates. When comparing the two species, A. fatua predominantly
had the lemma attachment point in the upper half, while A. sterilis had it in the lower half. A. sterilis exhibited slightly
longer seeds and hairs than A. fatua, while seed hairiness and mass were similar in both species. A. fatua populations
primarily had brown, light brown, and black colors, while A. sterilis populations had black, brown, and yellow colors.
Conclusions Distinguishing A. fatua from A. sterilis based solely on individual characteristics is challenging due to
their shared traits and considerable variability of traits within each species. However, it is possible to classify these
species by combining multiple seed traits. This approach also has significant potential for exploring relationships
among different traits that are typically difficult to assess using conventional methods.

AB - Persistent seed banks are equally important in agriculture and invasion biology. While
seed vitality persistence exemplifies an eternal uphill battle for weed control in agriculture, it
signals a potential invasiveness of species in invasion biology. Considering yield losses caused
by Amaranthus retroflexus, Abutilon theophrasti, Chenopodium album and Datura stramonium
in agriculture, and the importance of Ambrosia trifida as an emerging invader in Europe, the
objective of this study was to test the viability and longevity of the aged seeds of these
economically important weeds. Three seed viability/longevity tests were conducted: the
crush test, germination test in Petri dishes, and 3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) test.
The results revealed a significant variation in germination potential among the tested species.
The highest vitality was observed in 7-year-old seeds of A. retroflexus (41.67 %), followed by
16-year-old A. theophrasti seeds (17.78 %), 13-year-old C. album seeds (15.00 %) and 17-yearold
D. stramonium seeds (7.5 %). Furthermore, a remarkable seed longevity was documented
in the tested species (with the exception of A. trifida), preserving their germination potential
for over half a century. Seed germination was recorded in 49-year-old seeds of D. stramonium,
53-year-old seeds of A. retroflexus, 58-year-old seeds of A. theophrasti and 59-year-old seeds of C.
album, in strong evidence of the persistence of these weed species’ seeds in the environment.
invazija. U poljoprivredi vitalnost semena predstavlja borbu protiv korova, a u oblasti invazivne
biologije to je signal invazivnog potencijala vrste. Uzimajući u obzir smanjenje prinosa zbog
prisustva vrsta Amaranthus retroflexus, Abutilon teophrasti, Chenopodium album i Datura
u Petri posudama i tetrazolijum test (3,5 trifeniltetrazolijum hlorid-TTC). Dobijeni rezultati
su pokazali velike varijacije potencijala klijavosti. Najveća vitalnost je utvrđena za seme
A.retroflexus starog 7 godina (41,67%), zatim semena A. teophrasti starog 16 godina (17,78%),
trinaestogodišnjeg semena C. album (15%) i sedamnaestogodišnjeg semena D. stramonium
(7,5%). Takođe, utvrđena je izuzetna vitalnost semena testiranih vrsta (osim A. trifida) starog
više od pola veka. Zabeležena je klijavost 49 godina starog semena D. stramonium, 53 godina
starog semena A. retroflexus, 58 godina starog semena A. teophrasti i 59 godina starog semena
C. album, čime se potvrđuje njihova perzistentnot u životnoj sredini.

AB - The use of fertilizers is an integral part of agricultural production nowadays, as it has beneficial effects
on the yield of agricultural products and the functioning of the agricultural sector. Nevertheless, their unregulated
use can lead to serious harmful effects on the environment and human health. The aim of this research is to
measure the residual amounts of selected elements in agricultural soils, aggregated due to the use of fertilizers
during the vegetation season and to predict the potential for contamination of agricultural soils. The applied dose
of fertilizers has resulted in the accumulation of heavy metals in the soil, but their quantities were within the
allowed threshold values.

The aim is to indicate the importance of cadmium in feedstuff as a potential contamination source. Microwave digestion and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry were used to examine 298 feedstuff samples. A high amount of cadmium above permitted is present in 0.67% of samples. Continuous cadmium monitoring is necessary to prevent its uncontrolled entry into the food chain.

AB - This study provides an overview of food prices in the Republic of Serbia from 2016 to 2023 amidst the challenges faced by the meat processing industry. Household spending trends reveal a notable shift, marking an increase since 2016. The study explores meat products' affordability and nutrient density, challenging conventional assumptions. Mortadella emerges as the most nutrient-dense despite its lower calorie content due to high protein content, while pâté commands a higher market price despite its lower nutrient quality.

AB - Wastewater from the meat industry contains high concentrations of organic matter. The composition of these wastewaters depends on the type of meat being processed, the frequency of slaughtering, the size of the plant, and the disinfectants used to maintain hygiene. In order to achieve satisfactory wastewater quality and reduce environmental pollution, the agroindustry applies and develops different technologies for wastewater treatment. This review paper provides a literature overview of some of the most commonly used methods in wastewater treatment within the meat industry.

AB - Buckwheat is one of the functional pseudocereals rich in
antioxidants, nutrients, bioactive compounds, and phytochemicals. Colour
represents one of the most important sensory parameters in the quality assessment
of the meat products. The aim of this study was to determine the possible effect of
9-month artificial aging storage at 40 ± 2 °C on the change in instrumental colour
of buckwheat products used in the meat industry. In the CIE L*a*b* system, L*,
a*, and b* coordinates are used to specify the data of instrumental colour
properties. The results were statistically processed by two-way ANOVA (P<0.001)
and Tukey’s Honestly Significant Difference post-hoc tests (P<0.05). Storage and
product type (and their interaction) factors significantly influenced instrumental
colour. During storage, significant differences were observed between the time
points (0, 3, 6, and 9 months) in flour, with trends of decreasing lightness (L*) and
increasing red (a*) and yellow (b*) colour intensity values. Regarding product
type, significantly higher L* values were observed in flour, while a* values were
higher in grains. Except for the 3rd month, b* values did not show significant
differences. The insights gained in this study may indicate the further application
of stored buckwheat flour and grains in obtaining technologically justified and
colour-sensory acceptable meat end-products for consumers.
materijama, bioaktivnim jedinjenjima i fitohemikalijama. Boja predstavlja jedan od
najvažnijih senzornih parametara u proceni kvaliteta proizvoda od mesa. Cilj ovog
koriste u mesnoj industriji. CIE L*a*b* sistem sa L*, a* i b* koordinatama je bio
korišćen za specifikaciju podataka o svojstvima instrumentalne boje. Rezultati su
bili statistički obrađeni testovima dvofaktorska ANOVA (P<0.001) i Tukey-jev
Honestly Significant Difference post-hoc (P<0.05). Faktori skladištenje i tip
crvene (a*) i žute (b*) boje.

AB - The aim of the research was to evaluate the influence of the hybrid and the medium for germination testing on indicators of pep- per seed quality. The obtained results should provide an answer as to whether the application of different growing media for testing seed germination can lead to discrepancies between test results in quality indicators for hybrid seeds. The seed quality of three pep- per hybrids: KG 2025 F1, KG 2129 F1 and KG 2032 F1 was tested on two growing media (filter paper and substrate). Statistical analysis of germination energy, total germination, diseased seedlings and dead seeds showed highly significant differences (r<0.01) under the influence of the hybrid factor. The growing media factor also had a highly significant effect on all examined quality indica- tors, except for total germination. A significantly lower number of abnormal and diseased seedlings was found on the filter paper compared to the substrate. A highly negative significant correlation (r = -0.90951, p≤0.001) was recorded only between total germi- nation and diseased seedlings. The obtained results indicate that the application of different media for testing the germination of hy- brid pepper seeds can lead to inconsistencies in the obtained values for all evaluated quality indicators.
Statistička analiza energije klijanja, ukupne klijavosti, bolesnih klijanaca i mrtvog semena pokazala je visoko značajne razlike (р<0,01) pod uticajem faktora hibrid, dok je uticaj hibrida na broj nenormalnih klijanaca izostao.

AB - Neoaliturus fenestratus (Herrich-Schäffer 1834) is a polyphagous leafhopper widespread throughout
Europe, particularly in ruderal habitats, i.e., abandoned fields, vineyards, and sparsely vegetated
meadows, commonly associated with different plants of the family Asteraceae (Nickel 2003).
Neoaliturus fenestratus is confirmed to transmit the safflower phyllody associated with phytoplasmas
from the 16SrI-B subgroup (Raccah & Klein 1982), Picris hieracioides bushy stunt caused by
phytoplasma from the 16SrII-E subgroup (Mitrović et al. 2012), lettuce phyllody and wild lettuce
phyllody associated with phytoplasmas belonging to the 16SrIX group (Salehi et al. 2007), and chicory
phyllody phytoplasma of the 16SrIX-C subgroup (Ermacora et al. 2013). Furthermore, Mitrović et al.
(2019) experimentally confirmed its vector role in transmitting 'Ca. P. solani' of the 16SrXII-A
subgroup to lettuce and carrot. In this study, N. fenestratus was investigated for its capacity to transmit
the 'Ca. P. solani' to grapevine (Vitis vinifera) and native plants commonly found in and/or around
vineyards in Serbia (Convolvulus arvensis, Calendula officinalis, Chenopodium album, and P.
hieracioides).

AB - The planthopper Hyalesthes obsoletus Signoret, 1865 (Hemiptera: Cixiidae) is a major vector and
driver of 'Ca. Phytoplasma solani' epidemiology (Maixner, 1994; Jović & Toševski, 2023) and
associated diseases of cultivated plants, including the grapevine-Bois noir (BN) pathosystem. Because
of its strong association with its host plants as a subterranean nymph and short life span as an adult
(Cargnus et al., 2012), the epidemiological cycle is host plant-specific and is determined by the vector's
host range and the pathogen's reservoir range (Imo et al., 2013; Maixner et al., 2014). Although H.
obsoletus is commonly viewed as a polyphagous insect, there is plenty of proof of host plant adaptation
in its populations, which are referred to as host races, biotypes, or cryptic species (Imo et al., 2013;
Maixner et al., 2014; Kosovac et al., 2016; 2018; 2019). The first described and most prevalent
epidemiological cycles linked with distinct strains of 'Ca. P. solani' are driven by nettle and bindweed
as pathogen reservoir plants and H. obsoletus host plants (Langer & Maixner, 2004). The genetic
distinction between the two pathosystems was initially identified on the tuf gene and then verified by
secY, stamp, and vmp1 gene typing (Langer & Maixner, 2004; Johannesen et al., 2012; Aryan et al.,
2014). In Serbia and the Balkans, nettle-associated 'Ca. P. solani' genotypes are not commonly found
in BN-affected grapevine (Atanasova et al., 2015; Kosovac et al., 2016); hence, research on this
epidemiological pathway is neglected and available data are scarce. During more than a decade of
research on 'Ca. P. solani' epidemiology and H. obsoletus biology, ecology, and genetics in the
Balkans, we have frequently found the presence of "wrong" 'Ca. P. solani' genotypes in vector
specimens obtained from nettles. Here, we assess these findings and call into question the geographic
specificity of nettle-associated epidemiology in southeastern Europe.

AB - The occurrence of Flavescence dorée (FD) disease of grapevine, its associated phytoplasma, FDp (a
member of the 16SrV taxonomic group of elm yellows, subgroups V-C and -D), and the main insect
vector, the deltocephalinae leafhopper of North American origin, Scaphoideus titanus, was first
evidenced in vineyards in Croatia in 2009 (Šeruga Musić et al., 2011; Plavec et al., 2015).
Contemporary identification of FDp in the climbing shrub Clematis vitalba as one of the main natural
reservoir plants in North Italy and the Balkans was also confirmed for Croatia (Filippin et al., 2009).
Subsequent studies aimed at determining the genetic diversity and structure of FDp populations and
tracing transmission pathways in Croatia revealed the invasive tree Ailanthus altissima and the natural
riparian tree Alnus glutinosa as natural FDp reservoirs (Plavec et al., 2019). However, the roles and
epidemiological importance of each of the identified reservoir plants remained unclear due to the
limited number of elaborated samples. Regarding the natural insect vectors of FDp from reservoir
plants to grapevine and their association with natural reservoir plants on the wider territory of Croatia,
particularly beyond vineyards in their natural habitats, not much is known. To understand the
epidemiological importance of FDp natural plant hosts and insect vectors, we performed surveys
targeting clematis, alders, and other tentative natural woody hosts of FDp in vineyard surroundings
and natural habitats in wine-producing regions of Croatia.

AB - The planthopper Reptalus artemisiae (Becker, 1865) (Hemiptera: Cixiidae) is an emerging vector of
'Ca. Phytoplasma solani', and a well studied species for nearly two decades for its tentative, and later
proven, vector role in phytoplasma transmission (Trivellone et al., 2005; Chuche et al., 2016).
However, until recently, there was a misidentification of this taxon, leading to the incorrect
nomenclature of Reptalus quinquecostatus (Dufour, 1833) (Webb et al., 2013), which is actually the
name of another cixiidae species, previously known as Reptalus melanochaetus (Fieber, 1872) and
now considered as its junior synonym. The case of misidentification was presented and documented
in detail by Webb and coauthors (2013), while the question of naming Reptalus quinquecostatus sensu
Fieber was resolved by Emeljanov (2020), who made the necessary nomenclatural changes. The
changes were made following the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, Article 70.3. We
present here an overview of the (in)correct use of the taxon names for the two species in the last three
years since the changes were made and make a plea for using the correct taxon names.

AB - Bois noir (BN) disease of grapevine ('Ca. Phytoplasma solani', CaPsol,16S rRNA XII-A) was first
molecularly confirmed to affect vineyards in Croatia more than two decades ago (Škorić et al., 1998).
Presently, BN is widespread, occurring in most of the wine regions of the country (Plavec et al., 2018).
The diversity of CaPsol genotypes in Croatian vineyards indicates complex epidemiology, which was
recently confirmed in Istria, the westernmost grape-growing county of Croatia in the northeastern
Adriatic Sea (Delač et al., 2023). Euscelis incisus (Kirschbaum, 1858) is a nitrophilous, polyphagous
leafhopper, widely distributed throughout the Western Palaearctic region, inhabiting diverse habitats
(Nickel, 2003). Due to its wide distribution and ability to inhabit a variety of ecologically distinct
environments, this leafhopper can encounter diverse phytoplasmas that invade a wide range of plant
species. It has been established as a vector of the 16Sr I-B/C, III-B, and XII-A phytoplasma subgroups
and a carrier of the I-F/R, II-E, IX-C/E, and XI-G subgroups (Jakovljević et al., 2020). Its congener,
E. lineolatus (Brullé, 1832) was found to harbor I-B/C and XII-A subgroups, while its ability to act as
a phytoplasma vector has not been confirmed so far (Landi et al., 2013). The aim of this study was to
investigate the epidemiological and vector roles of E. incisus and co-occurring E. lineolatus in
transmitting CaPsol in BN-affected vineyards of Istria.

AB - Flavescence dorée (FD) is a severe grapevine disease caused by FD phytoplasmas (FDp), impacting
major viticultural regions in Europe. The epidemic spread of FD within vineyards is facilitated by the
Nearctic leafhopper Scaphoideus titanus, completing its life cycle on Vitis sp. plants in Europe
(Chuche & Thiéry, 2014). Through genotyping of the informative house-keeping gene map, FDp has
been categorized into three genetic clusters, each associated with specific vector and reservoir plant
epidemiology or geographic distribution (Arnaud et al., 2007; Malembic-Maher et al., 2020).
Genotypes of the Map-FD2 cluster are most abundant in vineyards in France, Switzerland, Italy,
Croatia, and Slovenia, while FD3 prevails in the Balkans (reviewed in Krstić et al., 2022). Epidemic
outbreaks of FD in Serbian vineyards began in the early 2000s, and despite extensive preventive and
curative measures, today FD is affecting vineyard areas in all administrative districts in Serbia(Krstić
et al., 2022).Until recently, the M51 genotype belonging to the Map-FD3 cluster, which is common in
all districts and wine-growing regions, was the only genotype associated with the FDp outbreaks in
Serbian vineyards.Subsequent surveys in the late 2010s on the occurrence and diversityof FDp in
Serbian vineyards revealed for the first timetheoccurrence of other genotypes, including members of
the Map-FD2 cluster: M89, M148, and M155, indicating that FDp in Serbian vineyards is not
monotypic and has a complex epidemiology(Krstić et al., 2022). This discovery prompted a more indepth
investigation into the specific ecological factors contributing to disease outbreaks to assess the
significance of these new findings. Initial results from this research are presented herein.

abstract = "Flavescence dorée (FD) is a severe grapevine disease caused by FD phytoplasmas (FDp), impacting
major viticultural regions in Europe.
Initial results from this research are presented herein.",

pupae of thirteen of them (except R. incana) were also described. The comparison of
larval morphological characters and plant preferences provides evidence supporting
the existence of different species groups previously established according to a phylogenetic
analysis based on adult morphological characters. The following diagnostic
attributes distinguishing the genus Rhinusa are highlighted. For the larvae: (1) pronotal
shield indistinct; (2) thoracic prodorsal fold small or even vestigial; (3) abdominal postdorsal
folds (especially of segments III–VII) high or even in the form of conical protuberances;
(4) cuticle of abdominal segments densely covered with asperities; (5) cuticle
without dark spots or dark pigmentation; (6) head suboval, rarely round; (7) labrum usually
with 2 als; (8) des1 short or absent, rarely elongated; and (9) fs1-3 usually absent or
minute. For the pupae: (1) body stout; (2) head protuberances always present; (3) pronotal
protuberances (if present), separated at bases of the pronotum, always wider than
higher; (4) abdominal protuberance usually present, wide or round; (5) femora usually
with a single fes; and (6) urogomphi short or vestigial. Keys to the larvae and pupae
described here are provided. All the characters used for identification are illustrated by
photographs or drawings. Biological and distribution data, including new information,
are provided for all the species studied.

AB - “Flavescence dorée” (FD) outbreaks in Serbian vineyards first emerged in the
early 2000s and were directly correlated with dense populations of the North
American insect vector Scaphoideus titanus. The FD phytoplasma associated
with the disease was first treated as alien and introduced, like it happens for
its insect vector. However, the genetic peculiarities of FD phytoplasma strains
from Serbia, as well as their occurrence in native alder trees in riparian areas
and clematis plants in vineyard surroundings and in natural habitats, proved
otherwise. Molecular data on the ecological properties of epidemiological
cycles driving the epidemic outbreaks of FD in Serbia today indicated the
importance of alders as reservoir plants for the epidemics (Krstić et al., 2022).
Riparian habitats hosting alder trees, alongside wild Vitis, Salix sp., clematis,
tree of heaven, and other FD phytoplasmas reservoir plants, were screened for
native leafhopper vectors as well as for Orientus ishidae, a newly established
vector of Asian origin in Serbia (Cvrković et al., 2021). Leafhopper Allygus
modestus and A. mixtus were commonly found in association with alders
in many sites, with the former being the dominant species. An established
population of O. ishidae feeding on alders was found in a single location of
riparian habitat in eastern Serbia. Among the analyzed leafhopper specimens,
using epidemiologically informative map gene typing, nearly all A. modestus
individuals were found carrying FD or -related phytoplasmas, while nearly
50% of O. ishidae were found infected at the same location. However,
A. modestus specimens had a lower phytoplasma load (Cq > 25) than O. ishidae
(Cq < 20 in 50% of infected individuals), even though they were collected in
the same period of the year. When comparing the map genotypes carried
by each of the putative vector species, A. modestus most often carried AldY genotypes, while O. ishidae was dominantly found harboring FD phytoplasma
genotypes of both Map-FD1 and FD2 clusters. The experimental verification
of the transmission capability and role in FD phytoplasma epidemiology for
each of the leafhopper species is under study.

AB - Apple is one of the most cultivated fruit trees in the world. Consumers value high quality fruit, with desirable morphological characteristics, good aroma and taste. Given the popularity of red apple fruits, the need for its cultivation is growing. The aim of this research was to analyze the qualitative characteristics of 4 commercial apple cultivars (‘Gala’, ‘Red Delicous’, ‘Jonagold’ and ‘Golden Delicous’) and their clones (‘Schnico Red Gala’, ‘Scarlet Spur’, ‘Wilton’s’, ‘Red Jonaprince’ and ‘Reinders’). Research was carried out on the Radmilovac Experimental Site in a two-year period (2021 and 2022). The following morphological parameters were monitored: weight, height and width of the fruit, index of the fruit, length of the stalk, firmness of the fruit and coloration of the fruit. Also, biochemical parameters were measured: content of soluble solids, total titratable acidity and flavour index. Sensory analysis was performed by scoring fruit attractiveness, taste and aroma. Clones had higher degree of attractiveness due to intense red colour (‘Schnico Red Gala’, ‘Scarlet Spur’, ‘Wilton’s Red Jonaprince’) or reduction of rustiness (‘Reinders’), in comparison to commercial varieties. In some clones (‘Wilton’s Red Jonaprince’ and ‘Scarlet Spur’) fruit size was decreased in comparison to parent cultivar. ‘Wilton’s Red Jonaprince’ had the best parameters of biochemical quality –highest soluble solids, titratable acidity and flavor index among all analyzed genotypes. The decrease of quality (soluble solids, acidity and flavor index) is noticed in the clones ‘Scarlet Spur’ and ‘Reinders’. ‘Schnico Red Gala’ showed the highest increase of sensory properties in comparison to original cultivar (‘Gala’). Clone ‘Wilton’s Red Jonaprince’ showed the best overall biochemical quality and sensory traits in comparison to all analyzed genotypes.

AB - Ambrosia artemisiifolia (AMBEL) and Ambrosia trifida (AMBTR) are recognized as troublesome invasive plant species in several regions of the world, including Europe. Under their impact, crop production is reduced in the invaded areas, and a large amount of pollen produced is harmful to human health. The height and density of these species can produce strong shading effects and inhibit the growth of other species, which is a precondition significantly changing the biodiversity and structure of the invaded ecosystems. Unlike AMBEL, which is widespread in many parts of Serbia, AMBTR is currently naturalized only in the area of central Bačka. Their harmful impact has also been noted in this area. Given all the above, the aim of this research was focused on examining the interaction of two ragweed species and their impact on other species in the plant community. During 2016 and 2017, field experiments were carried out at a farm near Dobrić, Republic of Serbia (44°41′N, 19°34′E). Unlike AMBEL, which forms dense populations in this area and greatly impacts crop production, AMBTR has not yet been recorded in this part of Serbia. Seeds of AMBTR were collected in autumn 2015 from infested crop fields in Central Bačka (45°30′N, 19°31′E). The experiment was set up as a replacement series design (four replicates) in different AMBEL/AMBTR ratios per m2: 10/0; 8/2; 6/4; 4/6; 2/8; 0/10. In addition to maintaining the total number of ragweed/m2, other weed species were not removed. They were more or less homogeneously distributed, with the most abundant species being Setaria viridis, Echinochloa crus-galli, Sorghum halepense, Polygonum aviculare, Cirsium arvense, Chenopodium album, Plantago major, and Erigeron annuus. The dry mass of plants was measured to assess interactions, and data analysis was performed in R-studio. During both seasons, ANOVA showed the same trend. With the increase in the number of AMBTR/m2 and the decrease in the number of AMBEL/m2, the dry mass of AMBTR decreased. Opposite, with the increase in the number of AMBEL and the decrease in AMBTR, the dry mass of AMBEL was increasing. According to the results, it can be concluded that interspecific competition is larger for AMBEL, in contrast, intraspecific is greater for AMBTR. During both seasons, in the treatments with the increase in the number of AMBTR and the decrease in the number of AMBEL/m2, the dry mass of other weeds decreased. Additionally, we conclude that AMBTR had a greater impact on other weeds in the plant community.

AB - Market demands for apple fruits are increasing. Beside fruits for fresh consumption and processing, in the last few years is also increasing the need for fresh-cut fruits. The aim of this work was to evaluate the fruit quality of 6 traditional apple genotypes from Western Serbia (‘Slatkača’, ‘Đulabija’, ‘Zelenika’, ‘Prstenka’, ‘Šumatovka’ and ‘Žutica’) through the analysis of various morphological and biochemical characteristics and to propose the potential use that will respond to the market demands. Morphological parameters of quality were measured: fruit weight, height and width, shape index, fruit firmness and fruit stalk length. Among biochemical components of quality, total soluble solids and titratable acidity were measured and used to calculate flavour index. Sensory analysis included parameters: fruit appearance, taste and aroma. Based on results, fruits of selected apple genotypes were divided into three clusters, which reflect their best potential to use for a different purpose. Genotypes ‘Đulabija’ and ‘Prstenka’ were the best rated by sensory analysis. It shows their potential as apples for fresh consumption, which are grouped in Cluster I. In Cluster II are grouped genotypes suitable for processing - ‘Šumatovka’ and ‘Žutica’. These genotypes have good soluble solids content, but low rating of appearance and taste, due to higher sourness or sweetness. Genotypes ‘Slatkača’ and ‘Zelenika’ had lower ratings regarding the appearance, but have good aroma and taste, which makes them suitable for Cluster III. Fruits from this cluster are suitable for fresh-cut apples. This research showed great diversity and the potential of traditional varieties of apples for different uses. Further research should evaluate their fruit quality in detail, especially regarding different climate conditions and pomotechnical measures that can improve quality of fruits.

AB - In recent years, in order to protect the environment and food safety, intensive work has been done on the development of biological fungicides, nematicides and herbicides, as well as products based on biological agents and medicinal herbs for plant protection. The aim of this research was to evaluate the effect of the application of Bacillus spp. and calendula extract on tomato yield. The experiment was carried out during the 2023 growing season in the field conditions using SP - 109 genotype of tomato, selected at the Institute for Vegetable Crops Smederevska Palanka. Tomato seedlings were produced in a greenhouse and were planted in the field at the end of May. The experiment was laid out in a random block system, with four replications. The number of plants per main plot was 36. The distance between the rows was 50 cm and between the plants in the row 25 cm. Five treatments were applied three times during the vegetable season (T1 - Bacillus spp. isolate 1, T2 - Bacillus spp. isolate 2, T3 - Calendula extract, T4 - Fungicide, T5 - Control). The number of fruits per plant in treatments T1 and T4 was 29. It was statistically significantly higher compared to the number of fruits per plant in treatments T2, T3 and T5 (20, 21, 20). Also, the fresh weight of fruits per plant was significantly higher in treatments T1 and T4 (847.7 and 868.5) compared to treatments T2, T3 and T5 (686.7, 680.4 and 634.4). Results of this investigation indicate that the application of biological agents, specifically selected Bacillus spp. isolate 1 (T1), can have effects comparable to fungicides, as evidenced by the achieved tomato yield. The future research will include investigations of the impact of Bacillus spp. isolates and calendula extract on the nutritional characteristics of tomato fruits.

AB - This study presents the findings from assessing the quality of alfalfa seeds collected from three Serbian regions: in each region,
batches of seeds from six places were analyzed. The following criteria were investigated: the proportion of dormant seeds, the
germinated seed content, the proportion of dead seeds, and the percentage of aberrant seedlings. Seed quality was assessed af ter six,
eighteen, thirty, and forty-two months of storage. The highest seed quality was obtained after thirty and eighteen months of seed
storage (91% and 89% of germination, respectively). During the 42-month storage period, the percentage of dead seeds (8%) and
abnormal seedlings (7%) increased, while germination declined to 84%. In a storage period of six months, the participation of
dormant seeds of 21% affected the germination rate, which was 77%, regardless of the low proportion of dead seeds (1%) and
abnormal seedlings (2%).
semena (1%) i nenormalnih klijanaca (2%).

abstract = "This study presents the findings from assessing the quality of alfalfa seeds collected from three Serbian regions: in each region,
batches of seeds from six places were analyzed.
In a storage period of six months, the participation of
dormant seeds of 21% affected the germination rate, which was 77%, regardless of the low proportion of dead seeds (1%) and
udeo nenormalnih klijanaca (%). Analiza kvaliteta semena je rađena nakon čuvanja šest, osamnaest, trideset, i četrdeset dva meseca.

AB - Clovers and other forage legumes are present in Serbia since ancient times. According to
archaeobotanical data, clover seeds (Trifolium sp.) were found in the Neolithic locality of Starevo-
Grad, dated from the Roman (Sarmatian) period. Clovers are valuable for their nutritional value,
nitrogen fixation and honey production. Heterodera daverti Wouts and Sturhan is a cyst nematode
belonging to the Schachtii species group. This species has been reported to cause severe losses to
T. subterraneum L. Cysts are lemon-shaped, ambifenestrate, bullate, with a prominent vulval
cone. The second-stage juvenile (J2) has a well-developed anteriorly concave stylet, oval median
bulb and four incisures. The overall morphology, as well as host list are similar to other cyst
nematode H. trifolii Goffart and perhaps some reports of H. trifolii may actually be H. daverti.
Cysts of H. daverti were found in soil samples originating from Bzovik in southern Serbia, and
examined at the Nematology laboratory of the Institute for Plant Protection and Environment.
Nematodes were extracted using a Spears elutriator. For morphological studies, specimens were
placed in lactoglycerol fixative and slides were prepared in glycerol. Photomicrographs were
captured using an Olympus BH-2 microscope equipped with Nomarski contrast and Motic digital
camera and software. Morphometrics of cysts and J2 were in agreement with the original
description by Wouts and Sturhan. Genomic DNA was extracted from cysts with The Dneasy
Blood and Tissue Kit and amplified with TW81 and AB28 primers. The obtained sequence of the
ITS regions of this population (GenBank accession number PP101636) confirmed the
identification of this species with 100% homology to H. daverti available in the NCBI database.
To our knowledge, this is the first record of H. daverti in Serbia.
