AB - of EOs on alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) seed dormancy. The four different varieties of alfalfa were used for the experiment (Zaječarka-83, Banatska-VS, K-28, Novosadska H-11). Two essential oils, lavender (Lavandula angustifolia Mill.) and peppermint (Mentha piperita L.) were applied at four concentrations:1%, 0.5%, 0.2%, and 0.02%, along with water as a control. Germination, dormant seeds and dead seeds were evaluated in a laboratory setting according to ISTA rules. The type of EOs had no discernible influence on germinated seeds, dormancy, and dead seeds. Both EOs in concentrations of 1% and 0.5% inhibited seed germination. The maximum germination of 91.66% was achieved with the Novosadska H-11 variety using lavender oil at a concentration of 0.02%, with reduced dormancy. Varieties Zaječarka-83 and Banatska-VS had the highest level of dead and dormant seeds when lavender and peppermint EOs were applied at a concentration of 0.2%. This study showed that both EOs at a concentration of 0.02% had a stimulatory effect on seed germination, simultaneously reducing seed dormancy, emphasizing their potential use for seed quality improvement in organic farming.

AB - Carrot (Daucus carota L.) is one of the most important root vegetables in the Apiaceae family
grown around the world. Production of carrots in Serbia is generated in Vojvodina with the
highest yields 27.4 t/ha, while other regions generate lower yields. Current studies on carrots
mainly focus on nutrient content and carotenoid synthesis. Seeds can be infected with
phytopathogens, which can contaminate other seeds or spread the infection to other crops. Out of
the 16% of annual crop losses due to plant diseases, at least 10% are caused by seed-borne
diseases. Changes in the quality of Nantes carrot seeds were monitored for three years (2019-
2021). Total germination was highest in the first year with 92% (2019). In 2020, there was a
significant decrise in total germination of 8%. Accordingly, germination energy was reduced
(p<0.05). A statistically significant difference in total germination was not obtained between
2020 and 2021 (p>0.05). The decrease in total germination from 2019 to 2021 was significant
(p<0.05%). It has been noticed that the infection of Alternaria spp. and Fusarium spp. was the
lowest in 2019 and increased in 2020 and 2021 (4% and 5%, p<0.05), respectively. The results
may indicate an association between the percentage of phytopathogens present and germination.
In conclusion, pathogen-free seeds are necessary to create a healthy plant population, better
germination and higher yields.

Hybrid seed was divided into small (SF) and large fractions (LF) The hybrid combination and seed size did not significantly (p ≥ 0.05) affect seed germination. Width, thickness, length, seed weight, dead seeds, abnormal seedling, stem and root growth and fresh seedling weight were significantly influenced by hybrid and seed fraction LF produced higher stems by 1.18 cm, longer roots by 2.94 cm and higher seedling weight by 0.032 g (the hybrid average) as compared to SF. The influence of hybrids on stem growth differed by 1.9 cm on SF seed and 1.7 cm on LF seed. Significant and positive dependence (p ≥ 0.001) between seed germination was determined with the growth of stem, root and seedling weight, as well as with the 1000 seed weight (p ≥ 0.01) and with a thickness (TS) (p ≥ 0.05). Seed germination with abnormal seedlings achieved a negative (p ≥ 0.01) significant correlation. AB - Background: Chemical composition of soybean grain may be modified by application of foliar fertilizers. The aim of this study was to test the effect of different organo-mineral foliar fertilizers: Zlatno inje, Bioplant Flora, Algaren BZn, Zircon, as well as plant growth regulator Epin Extra, on potential availability of mineral elements (Mg, Fe, Mn and Zn) from grain of three commercial soybean varieties: ZP-015, Nena and Laura (variety lacking in Kunitz trypsin inhibitor). In addition, phytate (Phy) and beta-carotene contents were determined. Results: ZP-015 achieved the highest P, Mg, Fe, Mn and beta-carotene contents. Laura had the highest Phy level, which might reflect the diminished availability of nutrients from grain. Compared to control, most of the applied fertilizers increased beta-carotene and decreased Mn content in all three soybean varieties. Increase in beta-carotene content was followed by increase in Fe content, mainly in grains with larger weight, as a part of improved yielding potential. Conclusions: Positive effect of Zircon application was evident on increased grain weight, and beta-carotene and Fe content. These parameters together with the lowest values found for Phy/beta-carotene and Phy/Mg ratios may explain the enhanced Mg and Fe bioavailability. On the other hand, positive effects of Epin Extra were mostly reflected by a decrease of Phy and an increase in Fe and Mn, thus becoming more bio-available. Accordingly, the organo-mineral foliar fertilizers based mainly on phenolic acids (Zircon) and bioregulator (Epin Extra) are to be recommended for soybean fortification.
