AB  - Common ragweed – Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. (Asteraceae) is an invasive plant species in Europe native
to North America. Most of the records of known eriophyid mites on different ragweed species are from their native
range. Our field experiments in Slovakia, 2016–2023, aimed to identify specific species feeding on common ragweed.
We searched for symptomatic plants and collected growing tips, which were then preserved in 70% ethanol for further
study. A recently described species of eriophyid mite, Aceria artemisiifoliae Vidović & Petanović (Acari: Eriophyoidea),
was found in western and eastern Slovakia. This is the first record of the species in Slovakia and the second record in
the world. It remains unclear whether this species is invasive like Ambrosia, and whether it could be used as a potential
biological control agent.

Harmful and potentially harmful species of eriophyoid mites in Serbia

AB  - Eriophyoid mites (Acari: Eriophyoidea) are the most numerous phytophagous mites and are among the most harmful mites in agriculture, forestry and urban horticulture. So far, 418 species of these obligate phytophagous mites have been recorded in the Serbian fauna. More than 20 species are considered as plant pests in agriculture, with six of them acting as vectors of plant viruses. Additionally, around 40 species are known to cause damage to forest plantations, nurseries, and ornamental plants. The most harmful eriophyoids in horticulture include: Phyllocoptes gracilis (Nal.) in raspberry orchards, Acalitus phloeocoptes (Nal.), Aculus fockeui (Nal. et Trt.), a complex of rust mite species, and gall forming Eriophyes spp. affecting stone fruit, Epitrimerus pyri (Nal.) and Aculus schlechtendali (Nal.), russet mite pests in pear and apple orchards, respectively, russet mite Calepitrimerus vitis (Nal.) and erineum mite Colomerus vitis (Pgst.) as pests in vineyards and four pest species on nut trees, Phytoptus avellanae (Nal.), Cecidophyopsis vermiformis (Nal.), Aceria erinea (Nal.) and A. tristriata (Nal.). The most harmful eriophyoids in floriculture are Aceria tulipae (K.), Cecidophyopsis hendersoni (K.), Paraphytoptus chrysanthemi K. and Aceria cladophthira (Nal.). Among the pests of urban greenery, the most important alien species are: Aceria petanovicae (Nal.), Aculops gleditsiae (K.), Aculus ligustri (K.), Aculops allotrichus (Nal.), Reckella celtis Bagd., Shevtchhenkella brevisetosa (Hodgkiss), and Vasates quadripedes Shimer. The recently registered Aceria pyracanthi (Can.), Aceria magnoliae (K.), Rhyncaphytoptus platani K., Cecidophyes psilonotus (Nal.) and Aculops sophorae Kuang are pontentionaly harmful in urban horticulture, while Eriophyes mali Nal., Aceria kuko (Kishida) and Aceria fici Cotte have been registered as new potential orchard pests in Serbia. In this presentation, the distribution, symptoms and harmfulness of these pests are discussed.

AB  - Eriophyids are among the most important pest mites worldwide. By considering the genus Aculus, the most economically important species on Prunus spp. are Aculus fockeui (Nalepa and Trouessart), on plum and several other stone fruits, and A. cornutus (Banks) on peaches. They cause symptoms such as chlorotic spots and curling of the young leaves, bronzing and rusting on the older leaves. Cryptic speciation is common in tiny and morphologically simple taxa such as the eriophyids and could also be expected in Aculus spp. To evaluate this, we applied an integrative approach to taxonomic characterization of pest species belonging to the genus Aculus on different stone fruit hosts. The results of phenotypic variability and COI mtDNA sequence analysis confirmed the present taxonomic status of the species A. cornutus and that A. fockeui represents a complex of cryptic species on different hosts.

AB  - Colomerus vitis (Pagenstecher) is the economically most important pest within the genus Colomerus. In addition to direct damage feeding, it also transmits virus diseases in grapevine. Depending on the type of injury, three morphologically identical strains can be distinguished: erineum, bud, and leaf curl strain. Over the last two decades, the use of molecular genetic tools, has contributed significantly to our understanding of natural genetic variation and speciation within different strain of C. vitis. Several studies suggest that erineum and bud strain are distinct, closely related species, and indicate that C. vitis is a complex of cryptic species. The main objective of our research was to estimate the genetic divergence among the specimens of the erineum strain of C. vitis collected in the Balkans (Serbia, Greece, and Croatia) based on the COI gene and to combine it with all available data. The analysis of COI sequences in the 12 eriophyid populations obtained in this study showed high genetic variability. The presence of two groups corresponding to G1 and G5 was identified by the ML topologies of the phylogenetic tree.

AB  - A new genus and species of the subfamily Nothopodinae, Colopodacini from Papua New Guinea are described and illustrated. Solenidiversum falcatariae gen. nov. sp. nov. infests Falcataria moluccana (Miq.) Barneby & Grimes (Fabaceae) and causes erineum on both the leaf surfaces. Solenodiversum gen. nov. has the solenidion on the inner side of tarsus I, tibiae of both legs completely fused with tarsus, all leg and ventral opisthosomal setae present, empodium entire and scapular tubercles on rear shield margin. With this new genus and species, the current number of Colopodacini is 16 genera and 41 species. A key to the genera of the Colopodacini tribe is given.

AB  - A new species of eriophyoid mite, Aculodes marcelli sp. nov., was discovered on cheatgrass, Anisantha tectorum (L.) Nevski (syn. Bromus tectorum L.), an annual grass that is native to Eurasia and Northern Africa. This grass was introduced to North America near the end of the 19th century and now is widespread and associated with the observed increases in the size, frequency, and intensity of wildfires in western N. America. In this paper, A. marcelli sp. nov., is morphologically described and illustrated. Compared with other Aculodes spp., it differs based on morphology and the sequence of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase gene, subunit I (MT-CO1). Results of morphometric analysis showed clear differentiation between A. marcelli sp. nov., and the most similar congener, A. altamurgiensis from Taeniatherum caput-medusae. Analysis of MT-CO1 sequence divergence revealed significant levels of genetic variation (17.7%) and supported the results from the morphometric analysis; therefore, it is determined that they are two different species. Aculodes marcelli sp. nov., is a new candidate agent for classical biological control of A. tectorum.

AB  - The taxonomy of Aculus mosoniensis appears to be an unresolved question and its clarification is required, owing to the potential relevance of this mite species as a biological control agent of the tree of heaven. This paper is aimed at giving accurate details on a previously and shortly announced synonymization with Aculops taihangensis, using a morphological and molecular approach. A fusiform morph of A. mosoniensis was distinguished from a vermiform morph and this latter was recognized as deutogyne, which was herein documented. Phylogenetic relationships between Chinese Ac. taihangensis and all A. mosoniensis mites collected in twenty localities in Europe were examined through the analysis of the mitochondrial cytochrome c subunit I (CO1) protein and the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer 1 region (ITS1). CO1 sequences of Ac. taihangensis from the Shandong province in China and those from mites collected in Austria and Slovenia were 100% identical; the ITS1 sequence of an Ac. taihangensis paratype matched for 99.8% with those obtained from protogynes and deutogynes of A. mosoniensis collected in Italy. All these data supported the announced synonymization of A. mosoniensis with Ac. taihangensis. Aculus mosoniensis was found genetically variable, with five CO1 haplotypes in Europe (becoming eight along with those of Ac. taihangensis) clustering in two highly supported maternal lineages and eight ITS1 haplotypes (becoming nine along with those of Ac. taihangensis) distributed in four supported clades. No overlap between intra- and interspecies distances was observed for both markers and all studied A. mosoniensis populations clustered in one monophyletic mitochondrial clade, suggesting that only one single species might occur in Europe. However, more mite clades may be related to more tree of heaven biotypes with potential ecological differences, which might have potential effects on the biological control and should be investigated.

Na biljnim vrstama roda Prunus do sada je opisano 13 vrsta eriofidnih grinja roda Aculus. Vrsta Aculus fockeui (Nalepa & Trouessart) [syn. A. cornutus (Banks)] sa dva trivijalna naziva (šljivina rñasta grinja i grinja srebrnavosti breskve) je kao ekonomski najznačajnija registrovana na osam komercijalnih vrsta roda Prunus: šljiva, breskva, kajsija, višnja, trešnja, badem, džanarika i rašeljka. Pravi status kongeneričnih Aculus spp. asociranih sa biljkama roda Prunus je teško odrediti zbog nedostatka novijih detaljnih istraživanja i oskudnih podataka u dosadašnjoj literaturi. Prema literaturnim podacima, samo se jedno istraživanje bavilo poreñenjem morfoloških karakteristika A. fockeui sa različitih biljaka domaćina kojim je pokazano prilično variranje morfoloških karaktera izmeñu populacija A. fockeui sa šljive i višnje. Cilj ovog istraživanja je razjašnjavanje taksonomskog statusa vrsta roda Aculus sa različitih biljaka domaćina roda Prunus. U ovom radu su analizirane populacije Aculus spp. sa tri biljke domaćina roda Prunus: P. domestica - šljiva, P. persica - breskva i P. avium- trešnja. Za morfometrijsku analizu merena su 23 morfološka karaktera na protoginim ženkama u uzorku od 25-30 individua. Jednofaktorska multivarijantna analiza varijanse (MANOVA) i kanonijska varijantna analiza (CVA) su korišćene radi utvrñivanja meñupopulacionih razlika na morfološkom nivou. Ekstrakcija DNK uzoraka (svaki uzorak 1-5 individua) je rañena pomoću QIAGEN Dneasy Blood and Tissue Kit-a. Region mitohondrijalne DNK (mtDNA) zadužen za sintezu subjedinice 1 citohrom oksidaze (COI) amplifikovan je pomoću prajmera LCO1490 i HCO2198. Na osnovu rezultata linearne morfometrije analizirana tri taksona su jasno odvojena (MANOVA: Wilks’λ = 0.0042; F46,130 = 40.82; P = 0.0000; CVA: duž CV1 ose, koja opisuje 77.3% ukupnih razlika, populacija A. fockeui sa trešnje se razdvaja od populacija A. fockeui sa breskve i šljive, dok se duž CV2 ose, koja opisuje 22.7% ukupnih razlika, uočava meñusobno razdvajanje populacija A. fockeui sa breskve i šljive). Poreñenjem sekvenci COI gena izmeñu populacija A. fockeui sa šljive, breskve i trešnje, nekorigovane p-distance iznosile su 17-20.3%, što ukazuje na postojanje kompleksa kriptičnih vrsta.

Delimitation of Cecidophyopsis and Cecidophyes (Eriophyidae: Cecidophyinae) species – linear morphometric methods

AB  - Although eriophyoids are considered a group of microscopic organisms with simplified bodies, more than 100 characters and 250 character states related to the body and legs can be used in their systematics. It has been demonstrated that some of these taxonomic characters are more prone to homoplasy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of 35 morphological traits, analyzed by linear morphometrics, for the delimitation of 14 species from two genera: Cecidophyopsis (C. vermiformis, C. ribis, C. malpighianus, C. hendersoni, C. verilicis, C. rosmarinusis and C. psilaspis) and Cecidophyes (Ce. galii, Ce. rouhollahi, Ce. glaber, Ce. gymnaspis, Ce. nudus, Ce. psilonotus and Ce. lauri). Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) revealed statistically significant interspecies differences (Wilks’λ = 0.0000; F455,4357.726 = 65; P = 0.0000). Canonical variate analysis (CVA) indicated clear segregation of species belonging to Cecidophyopsis and Cecidophyes genera along the CV1 axis. This trend was also supported by the UPGMA cluster analysis. Morphological traits that contributed most to the distinguishing along the CV1 axis were: numbers of dorsal and ventral semiannuli, body width at the level of the f and c2 setae, distances between the 1b - 1a tubercles, distance between d setae and prodorsal shield width. According to the squared Mahalanobis distances, the greatest morphological separation was between C. hendersoni and C. ribis (Cecidophyopsis cluster) and Ce. psilonotus and Ce. lauri (Cecidophyes cluster). In addition, C. vermiformis and C. ribis (Cecidophyopsis cluster), as well as Ce. galii and Ce. glaber (Cecidophyes cluster), showed morphologically very close relationships.

abstract = "Although eriophyoids are considered a group of microscopic organisms with simplified bodies, more than 100 characters and 250 character states related to the body and legs can be used in their systematics. It has been demonstrated that some of these taxonomic characters are more prone to homoplasy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of 35 morphological traits, analyzed by linear morphometrics, for the delimitation of 14 species from two genera: Cecidophyopsis (C. vermiformis, C. ribis, C. malpighianus, C. hendersoni, C. verilicis, C. rosmarinusis and C. psilaspis) and Cecidophyes (Ce. galii, Ce. rouhollahi, Ce. glaber, Ce. gymnaspis, Ce. nudus, Ce. psilonotus and Ce. lauri). Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) revealed statistically significant interspecies differences (Wilks’λ = 0.0000; F455,4357.726 = 65; P = 0.0000). Canonical variate analysis (CVA) indicated clear segregation of species belonging to Cecidophyopsis and Cecidophyes genera along the CV1 axis. This trend was also supported by the UPGMA cluster analysis. Morphological traits that contributed most to the distinguishing along the CV1 axis were: numbers of dorsal and ventral semiannuli, body width at the level of the f and c2 setae, distances between the 1b - 1a tubercles, distance between d setae and prodorsal shield width. AB  - Tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima) is a fast-growing deciduous tree native to China, considered a serious invasive species worldwide, with several socio-economic and ecological impacts attributed to it. Chemical and mechanical methods have limited efficacy in its management, and biological controls may offer a suitable and sustainable option. Aculus mosoniensis (Ripka) is an eriophyid mite that has been recorded to attack tree of heaven in 13 European countries. This study aims to explore the host range of this mite by exposing 13 plant species, selected either for their phylogenetic and ecological similarity to the target weed or their economic importance. Shortly after inoculation with the mite, we recorded a quick decrease in mite number on all nontarget species and no sign of mite reproduction. Whereas, after just one month, the population of mites on tree of heaven numbered in the thousands, irrespective of the starting population, and included both adults and juveniles. Significantly, we observed evidence of damage due to the mite only on target plants. Due to the specificity, strong impact on the target, and the ability to increase its population to high levels in a relatively short amount of time, we find A. mosoniensis to be a very promising candidate for the biological control of tree of heaven.

(Taxaceae) and C. malpighianus from Laurus nobilis L. (Lauraceae). Males of C. vermiformis, C. verilicis, C. hendersoni and C. malpighianus, and immatures of C. hendersoni and C. verilicis, are described for the first time. C. verilicis is recorded for the first time in the fauna of Serbia and the European region. Female cuticle-lined internal genitalia of five Cecidophyopsis species are studied under confocal laser scanning microscopy. A several steps of oviposition in cecidophyines is proposed based on CLSM observations on their internal genitalia. Sequences of the barcoding region of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (mtCOI) gene are given for the following species: C. hendersoni, C. verilicis, C. psilaspis and C. malpighianus.

AB  - A new species of plant mite (Acari: Eriophyidae) was discovered on medusahead (Taeniatherum caputmedusae), an annual grass that is native to central Asia and the Mediterranean Basin. It is invasive in western North America. Aculodes altamurgiensis sp. nov., is described here and differentiated from other Aculodes spp., on the basis of morphology. Its DNA fingerprinting was reported and compared with Aculodes mckenziei collected from Elymus repens and Bromus inermis. Pairwise comparison of MT-001 sequences between A. altamurgiensis sp. nov., and A. mckenziei revealed 20.2-21.5% genetic divergence between these congeneric species. First collected in Parco Nazionale dell'Alta Murgia in Apulia, Italy in 2014,A. altamurgiensis sp. nov., has been subsequently collected from medusahead in Serbia, Bulgaria, Iran and Turkey. Based on these data and on preliminary observations on the effects of the mite on plant growth, A. altamurgiensis sp. nov., is currently being investigated as a candidate biological control agent of medusahead.

AB  - A new species of eriophyoid mite Aceria alhagi n. sp. inhabiting the weed Alhagi maurorum Medik., is described from the type locality in Iran, but it was also collected from Uzbekistan, Turkey and Armenia. This mite causes changes of the leaves and inflorescence. Infested plants develop cauliflower- like galls on the inflorescence and leaves deforming the reproductive structures and inhibiting seed production. The potential reduction in seed set suggests that this mite could constitute a potential biological control agent against this noxious weed. To investigate intraspecific variability between A. alhagi n. sp. populations from Iran, Turkey and Armenia, we analysed molecular sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (mtCOI). These results indicated that there are no significant intraspecific divergences among populations of A. alhagi n. sp. from the five different localities in three West Asia countries. This finding can be used in the future research of certain mite populations as biological control agent.

Phenetic and phylogenetic relationships among Aceria spp. (Acari: Eriophyoidea) inhabiting species within the family Brassicaceae in Serbia

AB  - We examined morphological and genetic differences among Aceria spp. inhabiting six Brassicaceae species in Serbia. Five of them have been already mentioned in the literature as original or alternate hosts of Aceria spp. (Berteroa incana (L.) DC., Capsella bursa-pastoris (L.) Medik., Cardamine hirsuta L., Lepidium draba L. and Sisymbrium orientale L.), whereas Aurinia petraea (Ard.) Schur was registered here for the first time as a host for Aceria sp. Results of morphometric analyses indicated clear differentiation of Aceria spp. from B. incana, L. draba, A. petraea and S. orientale, whereas the other two entities were less diverse and clustered together. Molecular analyses indicated that the average mean divergence over all sequence pairs was 18.3% (11.8-25.9%) and disclosed that the observed mtCOI distances between the six host-associated Aceria entities are large enough to represent differences between species. The Aceria sp. hosted by B. incana was morphologically and genetically most distinctive, whereas discrepancy between phenetic and phylogenetic relationships was found in the position of Aceria sp. hosted by L. draba when compared with those inhabiting C. hirsuta, S. orientale and C. bursa-pastoris.

AB  - Hazelnut big bud mite, Phytoptus avellanae Nalepa, is one of the most harmful pests of Corylus spp. (Corylaceae) worldwide. Herein, we show that this species represents a complex of two cryptic species: one that lives and reproduces in buds causing their enlargement ('big buds') and drying, whereas the other is a vagrant living on leaves, under bud scales and in catkins, based on phylogenetic analyzes of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) DNA and the nuclear D2 region of 28S rDNA sequences. A molecular assessment based on mtCOI DNA and nuclear D2 28S rDNA revealed consistent differences of 16.8 and 3.5 % between the two species, respectively. Molecular analysis also revealed that atypical flattened nymphs (Tegonotus-like nymphs sensu Keifer in Mites Injurious to Economic Plants, University of California Press, Berkeley, pp 327-562, 1975) with differently annulated opisthosoma, which appear in the life cycle of P. avellanae s.l., belong to the 'vagrant' lineage, i.e. vagrant cryptic species. Light microscopy images of Tegonotus-like nymphs molting into males and females are presented for the first time. Our results suggest that the name P. avellanae comprise two species. Big bud mite should keep the name P. avellanae, and the vagrant cryptic species should be re-named after a proper morphological description is made.

AB  - Common ragweed, Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. (Asterales: Asteraceae), is an annual harmful weed of North American origin, now widely distributed in Central and Southern Europe, Asia and Australia. It is an agricultural weed, but it represents a serious risk for human health because its pollen can cause severe allergies. Recently, in the framework of the EU-COST Action 'SMARTER', an European program was started with the aim to develop sustainable management strategies for ragweed in Europe, with a special emphasis in the search and selection of biological control agents. Among them, the record of a new eriophyid mite Aceria species in Serbia has been considered as potential important biological control candidate. This paper describes the species following both morphological and bio-molecular approaches, and is giving some preliminary data on the geographical distribution and on the biology of the eriophyid mite on its host plant.

(Asterales: Asteraceae), is an annual harmful weed of North American origin, now widely distributed in Central and Southern Europe, Asia and Australia. It is an agricultural weed, but it represents a serious risk for human health because its pollen can cause severe allergies. Recently, in the framework of the EU-COST Action 'SMARTER', an European program was started with the aim to develop sustainable management strategies for ragweed in Europe, with a special emphasis in the search and selection of biological control agents. Among them, the record of a new eriophyid mite Aceria species in Serbia has been considered as potential important biological control candidate. This paper describes the species following both morphological and bio-molecular approaches, and is giving some preliminary data on the geographical distribution and on the biology of the eriophyid mite on its host plant.",

To investigate interspecific variability between Metaculus spp. on three different Brassicaceae host plants ( viz. D. tenuifolia, Lepidium latifolium ( L.), Isatis tinctoria ( L.)), we analyzed phenotypic variability of morphological traits and molecular sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I ( MT- CO1). Discriminant analysis identified seven traits that significantly differentiate three Metaculus spp: M. lepidifolii, M. rapistri, and M. diplotaxi n. sp. Analysis of MT- CO1 sequences supported the results obtained from the analysis of morphometric features.

AB  - Eriophyoids are an ancient group of highly miniaturized, morphologically simplified and diverse phytoparasitic mites. Their possible numerous host-switch events have been accompanied by considerable homoplastic evolution. Although several morphological cladistic and molecular phylogenetic studies attempted to reconstruct phylogeny of Eriophyoidea, the major lineages of eriophyoids, as well as the evolutionary relationships between them, are still poorly understood. New phylogenetically informative data have been provided by the recent discovery of the early derivative pentasetacine genus Loboquintus, and observations on the eriophyoid reproductive anatomy. Herein, we use COI and D1-2 rRNA data of 73 eriophyoid species (including early derivative pentasetacines) from Europe, the Americas and South Africa to reconstruct part of the phylogeny of the superfamily, and infer on the basal divergence of eriophyoid taxa. In addition, a comparative CLSM study of the female internal genitalia was undertaken in order to find putative apomorphies, which can be used to improve the taxonomy of Eriophyoidea. The following molecular clades, marked by differences in genital anatomy and prodorsal shield setation, were found in our analyses: Loboquintus(Pentasetacus((Eriophyidae + Diptilomiopidae)(Phytoptidae-1, Phytoptidae-2))). The results of this study suggest that the superfamily Eriophyoidea comprises basal paraphyletic pentasetacines (Loboquintus and Pentasetacus), and two large monophyletic groups: Eriophyidae s.l. [containing paraphyletic Eriophyidae sensu Amrine et al. 2003 (=Eriophyidae s.str.) and Diptilomiopidae sensu Amrine et al. 2003] and Phytoptidae s.l. [containing monophyletic Phytoptidae sensu Boczek et al. 1989 (=Phytoptidae s.str.) and Nalepellidae sensu Boczek et al. 1989]. Putative morphological apomorphies (including genital and gnathosomal characters) supporting the clades revealed in molecular analyses are briefly discussed.

AB  - The apple blister mite, Eriophyes mali Nalepa, 1926 (Acari: Prostigmata: Eriophyoidea), has been recently found in Serbia as a new pest of apple. The history of its research, the results of a morphological analysis and degree of infestation are presented. A comparison of the main morphological features of mites from different populations of remote geographical origin has shown that the apple blister mite from Serbia is most similar to another European population (Bulgarian [or Austrian?]) while it differs from E. mali originating from the USA and New Zealand. The percentage of infestation varied from 1.6% to 87.6%, with an average of 22.4%.

AB  - The russet mite, Aceria anthocoptes (Nalepa), is the only eriophyoid that has been recorded on Cirsium arvense (L.) Scop. It has been noted in several European countries and recently in the USA. In this study we explored the geographic and host-related variability of Aceria spp. inhabiting different Cirsium spp. We applied landmark-based geometric morphometric methods to study morphological variability of three body regions (ventral, coxigenital and prodorsal) of 13 Aceria spp. populations inhabiting five Cirsium spp. in Serbia (Europe) and four Cirsium spp. in Colorado (North America). Analyses of size and shape variation revealed statistically significant differences between Aceria spp. living on European native and North American native Cirsium spp., as well as between A. anthocoptes s.s. inhabiting European C. arvense and North American C. arvense. The coxigenital region was the most informative when considering inter-population shape differences. European Aceria spp. dwelling on Cirsium spp., including A. anthocoptes s.s. from C. arvense, are characterized by higher inter-population size and shape variability than their North American counterparts. This finding supports a Eurasian origin of A. anthocoptes, presumed to consist of a complex of cryptic taxa probably coevolved with host plants in the native environment. Morphological similarity among Aceria spp. inhabiting North American native Cirsium spp. may indicate that speciation of A. anthocoptes started relatively soon after the host shift to plants different from C. arvense in the invaded region.
