AB  - The paper presents the results of three - year tests (I, II, III) of finishing alfalfa seed of three different purities. Natural alfalfa seeds were classified into three groups: 1) without the presence of quarantine weeds; 2) with the presence of quarantine weeds of Cuscuta spp. and Rumex spp., but in smaller quantities; 3) in which there were also quarantine weeds in larger quantities. The alfalfa seeds were cleaned on a selector with sieves and on a magnetic separator manufactured by Emceka-Gompper. Depending on the purity of natural alfalfa seed, the finishing process had to take place in one to three passes through a system of machines, which caused different finishing output and losses of finishing processed alfalfa seed (9.2 to 38.0%). After finishing, the highest quality of processed seeds was from the group with the highest quarantine weeds (group 3), which was reflected in the lowest percentage of hard seeds (16%) and the highest percentage of germination (83%) in all years. This is also shown by a highly significant negative correlation between germination and hard seed (r=-430) after three years of seed processing.

Effects of pre-sowing seed treatments for improving germination and the growth of pepper and tomato seedlings

AB  - The aim of this study was to establish the effect of different seed treatments on germination, and the growth of the embryonic stem and the radicle of tomato and pepper varieties. Four treatments were used in the study: MIX [(Coveron + zinc (Zn 0.5%) + boron (B 0.025%)]; Coveron; zinc (ZnSO4, Zn 0.5%) and boron (B 0.025%). The treatments were applied on seeds of following four pepper varieties: Šorokšari, Somborka, Kraljica, and Mirtima and three tomato varieties: Rio Grande, Saint Pierre, and Tomato apple of Novi Sad (Novosadski jabučar). Germination and the growth increase of both the embryonic stem (cm) and the radicle (cm) were observed in the germination cabinets and pots containing soil in two laboratories – locations. After the treatment applied to the pepper seeds and testing in the laboratory germination cabinet the following was established: i) the maximum increase in germination of 90% was when the MIX and Zn treatment was applied to seeds, ii) the growth increase of embryonic stems of 2.7 cm was recorded when the MIX treatment was applied, iii) the growth increase of radicles of 1.7 cm was gained when the Coveron and MIX treatment was applied. Tests performed in pots showed that Coveron was the most efficient treatment. Treatments on tomato seeds during the seed testing in the germination cabinet provided: vi) the germination increase of 13% with the MIX treatment, vii) the growth increase of the embryonic stem of 2.6 cm with the same treatment, vii) the growth increase of 1.7 cm of radicles. Coveron was the most efficient treatment in tests in pots.

AB  - This paper presents the results of the cleaning tests of three different natural alfalfa seed lots and three different red clover seed lots performed using seed processing machines. The alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) and the red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) are two of the most important perennial forage legumes in the Republic of Serbia. Alfalfa and red clover seeds for sowing should be clean, i.e. free from weeds and foreign matter, and of high germination and genetic values. Such requirements can only be achieved by cleaning, i.e. removing all undesirable impurities and poor-quality seeds. The following parameters important for the seed cleaning process and equipment were observed: seed purity, contents of weed and other crop seeds, inert substance content, amounts of processed seeds (kg), seed loss and processing output. The results obtained facilitate (depending on the amount and type of weeds and other impurities found in the alfalfa and red clover seed lots considered) the proper adjustment of the seed processing equipment to obtain the largest possible quantity of quality seeds that are in compliance with the laws and regulations of Serbia.

AB  - The production and utilization of intercropped legume- cereal bi-crops as ruminant feeds is beneficial for many reasons – legumes are rich in terms of protein concentration, whereas cereals are characterized by higher carbohydrate contents. To improve utilization of common vetch-oat mixtures as feed in Serbia, the objective of this investigation was to evaluate the crude protein (CP) and carbohydrate (CHO) fractions in these feeds using the Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System (CNCPS) depending on the stage of plant development and seeding rate of common vetch and oat in the mixtures. The experiment was conducted at the experimental field of Institute for forage crops, Kruševac – Serbia, in 2015. The field trial was arranged in a randomized block design with three replications. In this research, pure stands of common vetch and oat, and their seed mixtures (common vetch:oat – 1:1.5; 1:1 and 1:0.5) were studied harvested at three different cutting stages: beginning of vetch flowering – 10% of flowering; forming the first pods on 2/3 vetch plants and forming green seeds in 2/3 pods. The samples were analyzed for protein and carbohydrate fractions according to CNCPS. Stage of growth affected significantly all carbohydrate and protein fractions, except unavailable PC fraction of crude protein which did not change with plant growth and development. The highest protein fraction was intermediately degraded PB2 fraction of crude protein. The highest carbohydrate fraction was available cell wall – CB3 fraction of carbohydrate. According to the results obtained in these investigations, it was concluded that common vetch-oat mixtures varied significantly with respect to their carbohydrate and protein fraction. Due to lower CC fraction, oat was superior feed in terms of total carbohydrates supply to ruminants. Among all investigated mixtures and pure stand of oat and common vetch, it could be conclude that mixture with 1:1 common vetch-oat rate was superior because of higher CA and CB3 fractions of total carbohydrate and the highest PB2 fraction of crude protein.

The impact of agroecological factors on morphological traits of maize

AB  - Climate changes are one of the crucial issues of modern agriculture. These changes imply the increase in average temperatures and the frequent occurrence of temperature extremes. Such conditions are stressful to maize concerning the expression of its traits. This paper presents the analysis of the maize yield concerning the yield components, morphological and chemical traits under various agroecological conditions. The objective of the study was to evaluate variability of grain yield (GY) and yield components (ear length, EL and number of kernel rows, NKR), morphological traits (plant height,PH and ear height, EH), as well as chemical traits (the whole plant dry matter, PDM and the ear dry matter, EDM), and the effect of the environment on the intensity of expression of these traits. Fifteen genotypes developed by crossing of six inbred lines were used as a material in the study carried out during the two-year period in one location. Obtained results indicate that traits were more pronounced in maize hybrids than in the parental components including the lower variability of the traits expression. NKR did not affect the yield unlike the EL, whose coefficient of determination was R2 = 0.600 in both production years. The environmental effect was high for all traits except NKR. PDM and EDM were closely related to PH and EH, but they also depended on the EL and the NKR.Variations in meteorological conditions have a significant impact on the final goal of the production, the yield. Prevailing agro-ecological conditions should be a major guideline in planning the crop production and selecting the genetic material.

The objective of the study was to evaluate variability of grain yield (GY) and yield components (ear length, EL and number of kernel rows, NKR), morphological traits (plant height,PH and ear height, EH), as well as chemical traits (the whole plant dry matter, PDM and the ear dry matter, EDM), and the effect of the environment on the intensity of expression of these traits. Fifteen genotypes developed by crossing of six inbred lines were used as a material in the study carried out during the two-year period in one location. Obtained results indicate that traits were more pronounced in maize hybrids than in the parental components including the lower variability of the traits expression. NKR did not affect the yield unlike the EL, whose coefficient of determination was R2 = 0.600 in both production years. The environmental effect was high for all traits except NKR. PDM and EDM were closely related to PH and EH, but they also depended on the EL and the NKR.Variations in meteorological conditions have a significant impact on the final goal of the production, the yield. Prevailing agro-ecological conditions should be a major guideline in planning the crop production and selecting the genetic material.",

AB  - During two years, germinability and initial growth of seedling of nine foreign varieties and four domestic varieties were
studied. The seed is grouped by size (small, medium and large), color (dark transitional and light color of seed coat).
Then it was preserved and at three and fifteen months of age in the laboratory and in the field, germinability, dormant
seed and growth of shoot and radicle root were examined. In addition to the age, other factors (variety, size, color, period
of storage) influenced significantly (P≥0.05 to P≥0.00) on seed germinability and growth of seedling.
Higher germinability is achieved from large seeds up to 3.6%. Depending on the seed coat color, the germinability
varied to 11%. The seed coat color has had a high impact on maintaining germinability for fifteen months. Seeds with
darker coat have also shown higher potential for storage and use in subsequent seeding periods, as determined by the
application of the aging test on seed. Significant interdependence (r) was obtained between the germinability test and
the growth of seedling in laboratory conditions and in field conditions. Between the germinability and the growth of the
shoot and the root, a significant interdependence was established, depending on the varieties (P≥0.05 to P≥0.00).

Određivanje relevantnih parametara pri doradi semena crvene deteline (Trifolium pratense L.)

AB  - The paper presents the results of the seed processing of the natural red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) seed with different initial purity in the seed processing center in the Institute for forage crops in Kruševac. Seeds of red clover for sowing must be clean, with high germination and high genetic value. Most of these requirements can be achieved through the seed processing, by the removal of impurities and seeds of poorer quality. In this process, there are number of technical-technological operations such as: cleaning, declarations, packaging in appropriate wrapping material and storage. The task of cleansing seeds is to remove all other seeds, weeds, impurities and extracts pure seed of the basic culture. In this way, the seed is prepared in a timely manner for good germination, sprouting, and cropping. During the processing of the red clover seeds, the relevant parameters on the equipment were determined: pure seed (%), weeds and seed of other cultures (%), inert matter (%), amount of processed seed (kg), seed losses (%) and processing output of the seed processing (%). The losses of red clover seeds in seed processing are in direct dependence on the type and quantity of weeds and other impurities present in the natural seed. On the basis of the obtained results, it is possible to optimally adjust and select the appropriate equipment for the red clover processing, depending on the quantity and type of weeds and other ingredients in the natural red clover seeds.
AB  - Rad prikazuje rezultate ispitivanja pri doradi naturalnog semena crvene deteline (Trifolium pratense L.) različitih početnih čistoća u doradnom centru Instituta za krmno bilje u Kruševcu. Seme crvene deteline za setvu mora biti čisto, visoke klijavosti i genetske vrednosti. Najveći deo ovih zahteva je moguće ostvariti kroz doradu, odnosno odstranjivanjem nečistoća i semena lošijeg kvaliteta. Pri procesu dorade semena crvene deteline postoji veći broj tehničko-tehnoloških operacija kao što su: čišćenje, deklarisanje, pakovanje u odgovarajuću ambalažu i skladištenje. Zadatak čišćenja semena je da se iz naturalnog semena sa primesama odstrane sva semena drugih kultura, korovi, primese i izdvoji samo čisto seme osnovne kulture. Ovakvim načinom seme se blagovremeno priprema u povoljno stanje za kvalitetnu setvu, klijanje i nicanje. Relevantni parametri na mašinama za doradu određivani su pri procesu dorade semena crvene deteline. Određivani su sledeći parametri: čisto seme crvene deteline (%), seme korova i seme drugih kultura (%), inertne materije (%), količina dorađenog semena (kg), gubici semena (%) i randman dorade (%). Kod dorade semena crvene deteline gubici su u direktnoj zavisnosti od vrste i količine korova i ostalih nečistoća prisutnih u naturalnom semenu deteline, odnosno početne čistoće. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata ispitivanja moguće je izvršiti kvalitetno podešavanje i izbor odgovarajućih mašina za doradu semena crvene deteline, u zavisnosti od količine i vrste korova i primesa u naturalnom semenu crvene deteline.

AB  - The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of foliar application of molybdenum on the germination energy and share of hard alfalfa seeds. Climatic conditions during the year had the greatest impact on the germination energy and share of hard seeds. Energy of germination was influenced by climatic conditions during the development of crops, ranging from 68.5 % to 84.1 %. Minimum germination energy was generated in the year with the most rainfall during seed formation, and the highest germination energy was achieved in the year with less rainfall during seed formation. The share of hard seeds ranged from 5.1 % to 6.7 %. Treatments with molybdenum in our research did not realize the difference in the germination energy and share of hard seeds that is statistically justified in any year of study.
AB  - Molibden je veoma važan u simbiotskoj fiksaciji azota i lucerka spada u grupu biljaka koja je osetljiva na nedostatak molibdena. U trogodišnjem periodu obavljena su ispitivanja na oglednom polju Instituta za krmno bilje u Kruševcu. Cilj ovih istraživanja bio je ispitati uticaj folijarne primene molibdena na energiju klijanja semena lucerke i udeo trvdih semena. Folijarana prihrana molibdenom (0,1% amonijum molibdata (NH4)6 Mo7O4 x 4H2O je obavljena preko dve aplikacije (prva aplikacija je obavljena u fazi intezivnog porasta, a druga aplikacija u fazi butonizacije i početka cvetanja useva) sa količinom vode 1000 l ha-1. Energija klijanja je bila pod uticajem klimatskih uslova u toku razvoja useva i kretala se od 68,5% do 84,1%. Najmanja energija klijanja je ostvarena u godini sa najviše padavina u periodu formiranja semena. Energija klijanja se razlikuje po godinama ali je prosečna energija klijanja na kontrolni i varijatni tretiranoj molibdenom ujedančena. Udeo tvrdih semena se kretao od 5,1% do 6,7%. Najmanji udeo tvrdih semena je ostvaren u godini sa najviše padavina u letnjem peridu a najveći u godini sa manje padavina u periodu formiranja semena. Prosečni udeo tvrdih semena na kontrolnoj i tretiranoj varijanti nije ostvario značajne razlike. Tretmani sa molibdenom u našim istraživanjima nisu ostvarili razliku u energiji klijanja i udelu tvrdih semena koja je i statistički opravdana ni u jednoj godini ispitivanja.

Comparative analysis of the characteristics of different types of wheat seeds

AB  - This paper presents the results of seven varieties of different species of wheat (Triticum spelta L. - Nirvana; Planeta, Cipovka, Aleksandra, Srma, Janja - Triticum aestivum L. emend. Fiori et P.; Verona - Triticum aestivum L. ssp. Compactum) for achieving seed yield and threshing. During the testing of each variety were determined by the following qualitative characteristics: 1000 kernel weight, test weight and germination. It also was determined vigor of seedlings. The experiment was conducted during 2012. and 2013. in the area Globoder of the city of Krusevac. Factor year had a significant effect on seed yield and total germination. Factor cultivar significantly affected the threshing: yield, test weight, 1000-seed weight and germination. The tested factors had no significant effect on seedling vigor.
AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati ispitivanja sedam sorti različitih vrsta pšenice (Nirvana- Triticum spelta L.; Planeta, Cipovka, Aleksandra, Srma, Janja-Triticum aestivum L. emend. Fiori et Paol; Verona - Triticum aestivum L. ssp. compactum) za postizanje prinosa semena i izvršaj. Pri ispitivanju za svaku sortu određena su sledeća kvalitativna svojstva: masa 1000 zrna, hektolitarska masa i klijavost. Takođe je utvrđivan vigor klijanaca (dužina stabaoceta i korenka, ukupna masa klijanaca). Ogled je izveden tokom 2012. i 2013. godine u ataru naseljenog mesta Globoder na teritoriji grada Kruševca. Faktor godina imao je značajan uticaj na prinos semena i ukupnu klijavost. Faktor sorta značajno je uticao na izvršaj, prinos, hektolitarsku masu, masu 1000 semena i klijavost. Ispitivani faktori nisu imali značajnog uticaja na vigor klijanaca.

AB  - Investigation of the influence seed tuber size and seed tuber pre-treatment on the total yield of early potato varieties Cleopatra conducted in Badovinci (western Serbia) during the 2007 and 2008 year. The research results indicate that the seed tuber size and pretreatment very significantly affected on all investigated characteristics potatoes. In both years the highest yield of tubers was established in the variant with the application of pretreatment and planting of the largest seed size fraction mass (80 g). Higher yields of potato tubers in moist conditions in western Serbia (Macva) of early varieties Cleopatra were achieved by planting larger mass of tubers (80 g) and removing the apical sprouts on tubers.
AB  - Istraživanja uticaja krupnoće semenske krtole i predtretmana na ukupan prinos krompira rane sorte Cleopatra obavljena su u Badovincima (zapadna Srbija) tokom 2007. i 2008. godine. Ispitivanja su izvedena sadnjom krtola mase 40 ± 5 g, 60 ± 5 g i 80 ± 5 g. Krupnoća semenske krtole je važna osobina i merljiva komponenta kvaliteta, koja utiče na biološku sposobnost krtola, broj klica po krtoli, razvoj useva u polju i broj primarnih izdanaka (PNI) po biljci. Predtretman naklijavanja zauzima veoma značajno mesto u tehnologiji gajenja ranih sorti, ali i u proizvodnji kasnijih sorti. Naklijavanjem se doprinosi skraćenju vegetacionog perioda, bržem nicanju i porastu, obrazovanju većeg broja PNI po biljci, veće lisne površine i ukupne organske produkcije, većeg broja i krupnoće krtola, te visine i kvaliteta prinosa. Predtretman je podrazumevao uklanjanje vršne klice nakon klijanja krtola, čime se postiže formiranje većeg broja klica iz bočnih okaca. Rezultati istraživanja ukazuju da su krupnoća semenske krtole i predtretman značajno uticali na sve ispitivane osobine krompira. Najveći prinos ustanovljen je na varijanti sa primenom predtretmana i sadnjom najkrupnije frakcija mase (80 g). Primena zalamanja apikalne klice direktno je uticala na razvoj većeg broja klica po krtoli, većeg broja PNI i većeg broja krtola po biljci i većeg ukupnog prinosa. Najjači uticaj zalamanja apikalne klice na ispitivane osobine utvrđen je kod najkrupnije semenske frakcije, odnosno da uticaj predtretmana slabi sa smanjenjem krupnoće semenske krtole. U uslovima semiaridne klime u zapadnoj Srbiji (Mačvi) za postizanje većih prinosa sorte Cleopatra preporučuje se zalamanje apikalne klice i sadnja krtola mase 80 g.

AB  - The examination results on threshing ten wheat varieties on the reconstructed mobile thresher 'Ernet' type V-08 in small experimental plots in the village Globoder are presented in this paper. The threshing process is an integral part of the collection of seed wheat and was conducted on experimental plots immediately after the manual mowing of the crops. During the testing the following qualitative characteristics of each variety were determined: seed moisture, weight of 1000 grains, hectoliter mass, germination energy and germination. The thresher's cleaning quality was determined by taking the average sample from the bags in which the seeds were collected after threshing. The samples were taken in the process of threshing wheat in the experimental fields, and then in the laboratory of the Institute for Forage Crops in Globoder-Krusevac clean and broken seed, other varieties, inert matter and weed were subsequently separated for each cultivar. The study aim was to examine the quality of different varieties wheat seed, as well as practical application and evaluation of the operating quality of the reconstructed mobile thresher, 'Ernet' type V-08.
AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati ispitivanja pri vršidbi deset sorata pšenice na rekonstruisanoj mobilnoj vršalici 'Ernet' tip V-08 na malim oglednim parcelama u ataru sela Globoder. Proces vršidbe je sastavni deo ubiranja semenske pšenice i obavljen je na oglednim parcelama odmah nakon ručnog košenja useva. Pri ispitivanju za svaku sortu određena su sledeća kvalitativna svojstva: vlažnost semena, masa 1000 zrna, hektolitarska masa, energija klijanja i klijavost. Kvalitet čišćenja vršalice određivan je uzimanjem prosečnog uzorka iz kesica u koje je seme prikupljeno nakon vršidbe. Uzorci su uzimani u procesu vršidbe pšenice na oglednim poljima, a zatim u laboratoriji Instituta za krmno bilje u Globoderu-Kruševcu naknadno je za svaku sortu izdvojeno čisto i polomljeno seme, druge vrste, inertne materije i korov. Cilj ispitivanja bio je ispitivanje kvaliteta semena pšenice različitih sorata, kao ipraktičnaprimena i ocena kvaliteta rada vršidbenog uređaja rekonstruisane mobilne vršalice 'Ernet' tip V-08.

Application of corn meal at ensiling of alfalfa cocksfoot and their mixture

AB  - One of the solutions for the economical use of alfalfa and cocksfoot is making the silage. However, these plant species are difficult to be conserved without appropriate additives. The aim of this study was to determine the impact addition of cornmeal on the quality of silage of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) cv. Kruševačka 22, cocksfoot (Dactilys glomerata L.) cv. Kruševačka 40 and their mixture (50% alfalfa, 50% cocksfoot). Mowing both species was carried out at the stage when 1/3 to 1/5 of the plants were in flowering in alfalfa or in stage appearance of inflorescence with cocksfoot. Corn grain is ground at the mill with a sieve ø 2 mm, then mixed with chopped fodder of alfalfa, cocksfoot and the mixture in the following amount: 6% (treatment A2), 3% (treatment A1), and without cornmeal addition (control A0). After six months was determined silage quality. Cornmeal addition, according to the basic indicators of the quality of silage had a significant impact on changing the quality silage of alfalfa, cocksfoot and their mixtures. It is evident that the addition cornmeal addition a significant impact on increasing the energy value (primarily the content inside BEM) of silage in all studied treatments.
AB  - Jedno od rešenja za ekonomično korišćenje lucerke i ježevice je spravljanje silaže. Međutim ove biljne vrste se teško mogu konzervisati bez odgovarajućih dodataka. Cilj ovih ispitivanja bio je određivanje uticaja kukuruzne prekrupe na kvalitet silaže od lucerke, ježevice i njihove smeše (50% lucerka, 50% ježevica). Ispitivanje je sprovedeno na krmi: lucerke (Medicago sativa L.) sorte Kruševačka 22, ježevice (Dactilys glomerata L.) sorte Kruševačka 40 i njihove smeše (50% lucerka i 50% ježevica). Košenje obe vrste obavljeno je u fazi kada je 1/3 do 1/5 biljaka bilo u cvetu kod lucerke odnosno u klasanju kod ježevice. Kukuruzno zrno je mleveno na mlinu sa sitima ø 2 mm, zatim je mešano sa seckanom krmom lucerke, ježevice i smeše u količini: 6% (tretman A2), 3% (tretman A1), i bez prekrupe (kontrola A0). Nakon šest meseci utvrđen je kvalitet silaže. Dodatak kukuruzne prekrupe je prema osnovnim pokazateljima kvaliteta silaža imao značajan uticaj na promenu kvaliteta silaže lucerke ježevice i smeše. Evidentno je da dodavanje kukuruzne prekrupe značajno utiče na povećanje energetske vrednosti (pre svega sadržaja BEM) u silaži svih ispitivanih vrsta.

Kukuruzno zrno je mleveno na mlinu sa sitima ø 2 mm, zatim je mešano sa seckanom krmom lucerke, ježevice i smeše u količini: 6% (tretman A2), 3% (tretman A1), i bez prekrupe (kontrola A0). Nakon šest meseci utvrđen je kvalitet silaže. Dodatak kukuruzne prekrupe je prema osnovnim pokazateljima kvaliteta silaža imao značajan uticaj na promenu kvaliteta silaže lucerke ježevice i smeše. Evidentno je da dodavanje kukuruzne prekrupe značajno utiče na povećanje energetske vrednosti (pre svega sadržaja BEM) u silaži svih ispitivanih vrsta.",
