Nutritional Value and Chemical Composition of Corn Silage Depending on Cutting Height and Forage Losses

AB  - The study presents the effect of cutting height (10, 15 and 30 cm) on yield, nutritional value and chemical
composition of silage corn. The experiment was carried out under dryland conditions and the silage corn was
harvested with three types of self-propelled silage harvesters. Cutting height increased linearly with increasing
operating speed of silage harvesters. For all types of silage harvesters, the cutting height of 30 cm had a
statistically significant (p≤0.05) effect on losses of yields. The numerical value of the R2
factor (from R2
= 0.8978
to 0.9896) shows a strong dependence in all harvesters for all three cutting heights. The regression coefficients
(b) show a significant deviation from the theoretical cutting height at 10 and 15 cm (b = 0.6676 and b = 0.6715),
and very significant (b = 2.0249) at the theoretical cutting height of 30 cm. With an increase in cutting height,
the nutritional value of silage increased. At a cutting height of 30 cm, during the test period in all types of
harvesters, the crude protein (CP) content was significantly (p≤0.05) higher than at a cutting height of 10 cm
(harvester C = 6.94% at 10 cm, harvester B = 8.15% at 30 cm). The cutting height of 30 cm influenced a
significantly (p≤0.05) lower crude fiber (CF) content of harvester Claas Jaguar 850 (21.19%), compared to
John Deere 6810 (24.33%) at a height of 10 cm. The crude ash content (CAsh) did not vary significantly under
the influence of cutting height. Starch content was statistically higher (p≤0.05) in all types of silage harvesters
during the test at a cutting height of 30 cm (28.2% harvester New Holland FX 28, 33.8% harvester
Claas Jaguar 850). The content of calcium (Ca) was significantly higher at a height of 30 cm for harvesters
John Deere 6810 and Claas Jaguar 850 in the third year, while no significant difference was found for
harvester New Holland FX 28. For phosphorus (P), there was no significant difference depending on the
cutting height, but it did exist depending on the year.

AB  - The shape and the size of maize seeds are the most variable traits, which are determined by a genotype and environmental conditions. The aim of this study was to understand the effects of the mechanism of the relationship and significance of seed variability on germination and morphology of seedlings. The seeds of five hybrids ZP388, ZP434, ZP555, ZP606, and ZP6263 were used in this study. The following seed traits were analysed: physical ones: seed length (L), thickness (T) and the width (W); morphological ones: seed weight (SW), seedling length (SLW), root length (RL), shoot length (SL) and seed germination (G) as a phydiological trait.There are statistically significant differences not only among physical traits of the seeds of the five hybrids (p≤0.05), but also among the morphological traits (p≤0.05). Statisticlly significant differences (p≤0.05) in the width (W), length(L) and thickness (T) of seeds of all hybrids were determined in the small flat fraction (SP). The large rounded seed fraction (KO) mainly differed in the width and thickness between hybrids ZP434 and ZP 555, while the large flat seed fraction differed the most in the length between these two hybrids. Large-flat (KP) seed fractions are also characterized by the highest germination (99%). As the seed weight increases, the seedling weight decreases (R2=0.527). Segmentation within hybrids according to the diversity of morphological and physiological properties of seeds was carried out according to the seed size, fraction and seedling weight, while the other parameters were less important. The characteristic of all hybrids is that large seeds of the KP fraction have high germination and well-developed seedlings.

AB  - The paper presents the results of three - year tests (I, II, III) of finishing alfalfa seed of three different purities. Natural alfalfa seeds were classified into three groups: 1) without the presence of quarantine weeds; 2) with the presence of quarantine weeds of Cuscuta spp. and Rumex spp., but in smaller quantities; 3) in which there were also quarantine weeds in larger quantities. The alfalfa seeds were cleaned on a selector with sieves and on a magnetic separator manufactured by Emceka-Gompper. Depending on the purity of natural alfalfa seed, the finishing process had to take place in one to three passes through a system of machines, which caused different finishing output and losses of finishing processed alfalfa seed (9.2 to 38.0%). After finishing, the highest quality of processed seeds was from the group with the highest quarantine weeds (group 3), which was reflected in the lowest percentage of hard seeds (16%) and the highest percentage of germination (83%) in all years. This is also shown by a highly significant negative correlation between germination and hard seed (r=-430) after three years of seed processing.

Analysis of the process of alfalfa seed cleaning using seed processing equipment

AB  - U radu je prikazana analiza procesa čišćenja tri partije semena lucerke na mašinama za doradu. Ispitivan je uticaj kvaliteta naturalnog semena lucerke na gubitke i dobijenu količinu dorađenog semena. Takođe je prikazan i kvalitet semena lucerke tokom procesa dorade. U procesu čišćenja semena lucerke količina dobijenog semena i gubici semena zavise od početne čistoće semena, kao i od primenjene tehnologije. Propusti prilikom procesa dorade semena lucerke mogu da dovedu do velikih gubitaka semena, to jest do ekonomskih gubitaka. Procesom dorade potrebno je dobiti što veću količinu čistog semena bez prisustva korova, a naročito bez karantinskih korova kao što su vilina kosica i štavelj. Seme koje se koristi za setvu mora da bude čisto, bez primesa i korova, visoke klijavosti i genetske vrednosti. Eksperiment je obavljen u doradnom centru Instituta za krmno bilje u Kruševcu. Dorađivane su tri partije naturalnog semena lucerke. Seme je dorađivano na mašini za fino čišćenje tip Alfa-4, danskog proizvođača Damas i na magnetnoj mašini, nemačkog proizvođača Emceka Gompper, tip IV. U radu su prikazani svi relevantni parametri za proces dorade semena: čisto seme (%), seme korova i seme drugih kultura (%), inertne materije (%), masa dorađenog semena (kg), gubici semena (%) i randman dorade (%). Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata moguće je da se izvrši analiza procesa dorade semena lucerke na mašinama za doradu i njihovo pravilno podešavanje pri procesu dorade. Podešavanje mašina vrši se u zavisnosti od količine i vrste korova, kao i ostalih primesa koje se nalaze u naturalnom semenu.

AB  - After harvesting, the seed dormancy of grasses occurs. During the maturing period, seed dormancy is slowly reduced, and seed germination reaches the maximum values of use. Germination decreases during longer storage. The levels of seed dormancy and germination prevention determine the complex of physiological and biochemical processes in the seeds, which vary depending on genetic background, environment during maturation, and even the position of seeds on the plant. The goal is to maintain, as long as possible, the maximum germination after seed ripening. However, aging and germination reduction are processes which largely depend of storage conditions and seed packaging. The three tested seed lots of tall fescue were kept in paper, textile and polyethylene (PVC) containers during 10, 16, 24, 28, 34 and 40 months. The dormancy, germination energy, and total germination were examined. The seeds stored in PVC containers required a shorter period of time in order to release from dormancy and achieve maximum germination (16 months, 43% germination). After 40 months, there was a significant decrease in germination (80%). In some seed lots, the germination dropped to 77%, which is the required minimum for marketing authorization (The Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, No. 47/48). In the case of the seeds kept in paper containers, the maximum germination (89% and 90%) was obtained after 22 months. The same seed germination was obtained after 40 months of storage.

AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati ispitivanja pri doradi naturalnog semena crvene deteline na mašinama za doradu različitim tehnološkim postupcima. Seme za zasnivanje i korišćenje useva crvene deteline (Trifolium pratense L.) mora biti visoke čistoće, klijavosti, kao i visoke genetske vrednosti. Ovi zahtevi se ostvaruje doradom, odnosno odstranjivanjem nečistoća i semena lošijeg kvaliteta. Dorada semena crvene deteline obuhvata veći broj operacija od kojih su najznačajnije: čišćenje, pakovanje u ambalažu, deklarisanje i skladištenje. U procesu dorade semena ove krmne biljke količina dorađenog semena direktno zavisi od sadržaja primesa koje mogu biti organskog i neorganskog porekla, a takođe i od količine i vrste korova u semenu koje se dorađuje. Zadatak čišćenja je da se iz naturalnog semena crvene deteline sa primesama uklone sva zrna stranih primesa i razne nečistoće i izdvoji čisto zrno osnovne kulture. Značaj dorađenog semena se ogleda u tome da se seme blagovremeno pripremi u što povoljnije stanje za sejalicu i kvalitetnu setvu, klijanje i nicanje. Cilj ispitivanja bio je da se pri doradi semena crvene deteline odrede relevantni parametri na mašinama za doradu, a to su: čisto seme (%), seme korova i seme drugih kultura (%), inertne materije (%), količina dorađenog semena (kg), vreme dorade semena (h), gubici semena (%), randman dorade (%), kao i količina potrošenog materijala u tehnološkom procesu dorade semena. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata i njihovim poređenjem moguće je izvršiti izbor odgovarajućeg tehnološkog procesa za doradu semena crvene deteline.

AB  - The aim of this research was to determine relevant parameters and optimal alfalfa seed processing technology by a comparative analysis of two systems of machinery for processing natural alfalfa seed of different purity (59.0% and 71.0%) and with different content of impurities. The relevant parameters monitored during the test were: pure seed (%), weed seeds and seeds of other crops (%), inert matter (%), amount of processed seed (kg), seed processing time (min), consumption of steel powder (kg), water (l), glycerin (ml), and processing yield (%). Alfalfa is the most important forage legume due to its forage quality and growing regions in our country and worldwide. The losses of alfalfa seed in processing are directly dependent on the type and quantity of weeds and other impurities present in the natural seed. In particular, a large amount of impurities and weeds in natural alfalfa seed may be due to the poor condition of crops, as well as improper adjustment of combine harvesters during the harvest. The processing of alfalfa seed is performed by multiple pieces of equipment and devices, including a number of different procedures depending on the initial seed purity. The type of processing machinery and the selection of appropriate technological measures depend on the initial seed purity. The proper setting of processing machinery is also very important in order to obtain optimal results and reduce seed losses during processing.

AB  - U radu su ispitivane kvalitativne karakteristike mobilne vršalice tip V-08 proizvođača „ERNET“ iz Kikinde, namenjene za vršidbu semena ratarskih i povrtarskih kultura na oglednim poljima. Na malim oglednim parcelama posle košenja useva, vršidba je sastavni deo ubiranja semenske pšenice. Cilj ispitivanja je bio praktična primena i ocena kvaliteta rada uređaja u vršidbi sortnog semena pšenice u mikro ogledima. U toku istraživanja ustanovljeni su gubici semena na slamotresima i sitima vršalice koji se pojavljuju u neovršenim klasovima i slobodnom semenu u ovršenoj masi. Visina gubitaka i kvalitet ovršenog semena zavise od sorte, vlažnosti semena u momentu žetve, od broja obrtaja bubnja, zazora između bubnja i podbubnja, veličine otvora na sitima i njihove čistoće. U radu vršalice ukupni gubici semena kretali su se od 0,17-3,24% od čega je manji deo gubitka semena na sitima od 0-0,18% od prinosa, a ostalo su gubici na slamotresima. Kvalitet vršidbe određivan je na osnovu prosečnog uzorka uzetog iz kese-vrećice u koju je seme prikupljeno iz vršalice. Kasnije je u laboratoriji na separatoru tipa Dakota iz prosečnog uzorka izdvojeno celo, šturo i polomljeno seme i ostale primese. Kvalitet vršidbe je bio zadovojavajući jer se učešće čistog semena kretalo od 88-98,52%, šturog semena od 0,73-4,65% i primesa 0,73-9,95%. Pravilnim podešavanjem i načinom rada vršalice V-8 kvalitet ovršenog semena pšenice je zadovoljavajući sa minimalnim gubicima semena na vršalici i sitima.

AB  - After the harvest of tall fescue seed dormancy is present, indicating the reduction of germination. In conventional storage conditions for seed storage, we investigated the influence of three different ways of packaging (paper bags, canvas bags and plastic bags) to change the germination of seeds immediately after harvest, after 30, 60 and 90 days. After 30 days seed dormancy is reduced by 1 to 3% and germination was increased by 2-3%, while the impact of packaging had no significant effect.The decreasing trend in seed dormancy and increased germination even after 60 days continued in the same percentages. After 90 days of storage the contents of dormant seed was reduced to 22-35% and germination was increased to 65-72%.

AB  - Tokom dvogodišnjeg istraživanja (2006-2007) izvedeni su ogledi sa livadskim vijukom (Festuca pratensis Huds.), sorta K21, i visokim vijukom (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.), sorta K20. Uzimanjem gornjih, srednjih i donjih grana iz cvasti (metlice) generativnih stabljika utvrđen je njihov uticaj na formiranje prinosa i kvalitet semena. Kod obe ispitivane vrste donje i srednje grane iz cvasti su ispoljile daleko veći značaj u formiranju prinosa semena u odnosu na gornje grane. U pogledu kvaliteta semena, uticaj položaja grana na masu 1000 semena pokazao je veću varijabilnost kod livadskog vijuka, (CV(%) = 8,41), dok je visoki vijuk ispoljio veću varijabilnost za energiju klijanja semena i ukupnu klijavost (CV(%) = 11,05 i CV(%) = 2,26).

abstract = "Tokom dvogodišnjeg istraživanja (2006-2007) izvedeni su ogledi sa livadskim vijukom (Festuca pratensis Huds.), sorta K21, i visokim vijukom (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.), sorta K20.
