Effect of condensed tannins concentrations on protein degradability of red clover, italian ryegrass and their mixtures

AB  - Growing grasses in a mixture with legumes leads to more profitable
production, better quality of forages, an increase in soil biogenicity and fixation of
a significant amount of nitrogen. The experiment was established as a two factorial
trial by the method of randomized complete block design in three replications. Italian
ryegrass – monocrop (IR), red clover – monocrop (RC) and their mixtures – IR:RC
(15:5 kg ha-1), IR:RC (15:10 kg ha-1), IR:RC (20:5 kg ha-1) and IR:RC (20:10 kg
ha-1) were planted in November 2016, with the first cutting in the spring 2017 – on
May the 9th, and the second cutting in the early summer – on June the 22nd. The
aim of this study was to investigate the concentrations of phenolic compounds such
as condensed tannins in Italian ryegrass, red clover and their mixtures, as well as
their concentrations impact on protein degradability in the rumen depends on the
seeding rate in the mixtures and harvested in the spring and early summer. Results
obtained in this study showed that higher concentrations of non-protein nitrogen
and soluble protein in forages harvested in the spring influenced higher rapidly
degradable protein concentration in investigated mixtures. The highest rumen
undegradable protein was determined in Italian ryegrass monocrop harvested in
early summer, and we assume that high condensed tannins concentration
influenced the slower protein degradability. Our recommendation for plant
breeders is that cultivars with higher content of condensed tannins should be
created and introduced in animal nutrition.

AB  - Preservation of genetic variability is very important, especially due to climate change and the need to adapt agricultural production to new conditions. Institute for forage crops Kru{\v{s}}evac keeps a small collection of vetch genotypes (Vicia sativa L. and Vicia vilosa L.). Most genotypes are native to South Australia and the rest originates from Serbia. In Serbia, common vetch is cultivated as a feed for ruminants and can be grown for different purposes as a pure crop or in mixtures with cereals. The quality and yield of vetch green mass is very important for both purposes. A small-plot trial was carried out in 2018 and 2019, at the experimental plot of Institute for forage crops in Kru{\v{s}}evac, Serbia. Twelve promising genotypes of common vetch (Vicia sativa L.) were examined for green forage dry matter yield and green mass quality. The moment of green mass cutting, for each genotype, was at the stage of full flowering and the formation of the first pods. The following parameters of green mass were examined: forage dry matter yield (DMY), crude protein (CP), crude ash (CA), crude fiber (CF), crude fat (CF), as well as acid detergent fiber (ADF), and neutral detergent fiber (NDF). Significant variability was obtained for all tested traits, except for the fat and ash content. Investigations of genetic variability of common vetch can be a basis of further investigations and improvement of new cultivars with desirable characteristics.

AB  - Red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) is characterized by high dry matter (DM) yield and a high nutritive value. It has a higher concentration of soluble carbohydrate than lucerne and its protein is less degradable in the rumen than lucerne protein. The aim of this study was to quantify the main crude protein (CP) and carbohydrate (CHO) fractions of a tetraploid (4n, cv K-32) and a diploid (2n, cv K-39) red clover cultivar harvested at three stages of development in the spring growth. Results showed that the cultivar and stage of development had a large impact on chemical composition and the protein and carbohydrate fractions determined by the Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System (CNCPS). The rapidly degradable protein fraction (PA) was significantly higher in the tetraploid (272 to 287 g kg-1 CP with advancing plant development) than in the diploid red clover cultivar (214 to 268 g kg-1 CP). Rumen degradable carbohydrate concentration was not affected by cultivar but it was significantly influenced by the stage of development. The concentration of rumen degradable protein decreased from 726 to 655 g kg-1 CP with advancing plant development in the diploid red clover cultivar. In conclusion, the tetraploid red clover cultivar was higher in CP, its protein was more rapidly degradable, and it was characterized by lower concentrations of lignin and unavailable carbohydrate fractions than the diploid cultivar.

Uticaj starosti semena na kvalitet različitih sorata lucerke

AB  - Plava lucerka (Medicago sativa L.) je zbog svih svojih osobina najvažnija krmna biljka u našoj zemlji. Veliki značaj lucerke se ogleda u proizvodnji kvalitetne kabaste hrane, ali je i seme lucerke vredna i kurentna roba na domaćem i inostranom tržištu. Areal gajenja lucerke je na svim kontinentima u više od 80 zemalja, od umereno hladnog do tropskog pojasa. Široka geografska rasprostranjenost lucerke uslovljena je njenom velikom adaptabilnošću na različite klimatske i zemljišne uslove. Zasnivanje useva krmnih biljaka vrši se direktnom setvom semena. Obzirom na te okolnosti, brza i uniformna pojava snaznih klijanaca lucerke je veoma značajna kako bi se osigurala visoka uniformnost klijanaca, što utiče na početnu fazu razvoja useva, a kao rezultat svega je visok i stabilan prinos. Sve ovo ukazuje na važnost izbora semena dobrog kvaliteta.U ovom radu je ispitivan uticaj starosti semena na kvalitet tri različite sorte lucerke (Kruševačka 28, NS-Banat i Čačanka-10). Seme ispitivanih sorata lucerke čuvano je pet godina u papirnim kesama u kontrolisanim uslovima temperature i relativne vlažnosti vazduha. Zatim je ispitivana klijavost semena različitih sorata lucerke starosti pet godina u klijalistu na temperaturi od 20o C u mraku, deset dana (prema Pravilniku o ispitivanju kvaliteta semena poljoprivrednog bilja 47/87). Dobijeni rezultati ukazuju da je starost semena značajno uticala na ukupnu klijavost, nenormalne klijance, tvrdo i mrtvo seme. Najveća klijavost je ostvarena iz semena starog dve godine, pri tome uticaj sorte je takodje statistički značajno delovao na ukupnu klijavost, kao i interakcija starost semena x sorta (P≤0,05).

AB  - In Serbia, alfalfa is the most important perennial forage legume that is grown at 180-200 thousand hectares. Except for the classic production of forage, alfalfa is very important for seed production. In our conditions Alfalfa seed are produced from the second cut of alfalfa. Higher seed yields are achieved in larger distances between rows. In this system of production first and third cut are used for fodder. This trial tests three different densities and four varieties in order to determine the impact on yield and quality of forage dry matter. In the year of establishment, cultivars from the treatment A1 achieved higher yields of dry matter for 2.3 t ha-1 in relation to the treatment A2. In the second year, yield was higher by 1.4 t ha-1, and in the third higher for 3.1 t ha-1. Treatment A1 compared to A3 treatment had a higher yield of 3.5 t ha-1 (52%). In the second year treatment A1 achieved higher yields of forage then treatment A3 for 3.8 t ha-1 (44%), and in the third year for 4.6 t ha-1 (56%). Cultivars were also significantly affected the yield of forage dry matter at all densities. Influence of density and variety to the chemical composition of forage and the content of macro elements in the forage had no significant effect.

Racionalizacija u procesu dorade semena lucerke

AB  - U radu je data analiza efikasnosti mašina za doradu pri doradi naturalnog semena lucerke čistoće 71% različitim tehnološkim postupcima. Seme za zasnivanje i korišćenje lucerke mora biti visoke čistoće, klijavosti i genetske vrednosti. Zadatak čišćenja je da se iz naturalnog semena sa primesama uklone sva zrna drugih vrsta i sorti zajedno sa inertnim materijama i izdvoji čisto zrno osnovne kulture. Kvalitet dorađenog semena lucerke je propisan pravilima o kvalitetu poljoprivrednog bilja. Posle svake faze dorade na mašinama za doradu ispitivana je čistoća i sastav primesa. Veoma značajan pokazatelj efikasnosti izdvajanja i procenat gubitaka semena pri doradi je procenat zastupljenosti semena Cuscute spp. pre i posle prolaska kroz magnetnu mašinu. Cilj ispitivanja bio je da se pri doradi semena lucerke odrede relevantni parametri za svaki od primenjenih tehnoloških postupaka. Relevantni parametri koji su određivani tokom ispitivanja bili su: čisto seme (%), seme korova i seme drugih kultura (%), inertne materije (%), količina dorađenog semena (kg), vreme dorade semena (h), gubici semena (%) i randman dorade (%). Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata moguće je izvršiti izbor odgovarajućeg tehnološkog procesa za doradu semena lucerke, odnosno optimizaciju i racionalizaciju u procesu njegove dorade.

AB  - Lignin is a poorly characterized polymer and its exact properties vary
depending on both the species of the plant and its location within the plant.
Three classes of lignins taken from alfalfa stem were examined. The investigation
was concentrated on the determination of chemical changes in the lignins
during growth and development by the attenuated total reflectance (ATR)
infrared (IR) spectrometric technique. The spectrum of permanganate lignin
was comparable to that of acid detergent lignin. The main differences were in
the different relative absorbance of the peaks. The predominant component of
acid detergent lignin and permanganate lignin was guaiacyl-type lignin. The
predominant component of Klason lignin was syringyl-type lignin. A comparison
between the signals from lignin in different development stages revealed
the appearance of new peaks, which are indications of new bonds and changes
in the structure of the lignins.
